2024 Summer Investment Analyst Program

Sixth Street’s Summer Analyst Internship program is an opportunity for rising seniors to learn how to be a fundamental investor at a fast-paced, top-tier global investment firm. At Sixth Street, our team builds businesses, invests for growth, acquires assets, provides direct financing, identifies value in public markets, purchases royalty streams, and regularly develops first-of-their-kind structures to meet the strategic objectives of companies and management teams across all stages of growth.

Overview of Program:
•    Participate in a 10-week internship program designed to give you a robust understanding of Sixth Street’s investing strategies
•    Acquire extensive training and develop your understanding of financial products, underwriting, modelling, and accounting
•    Obtain hands-on, meaningful, and substantive work experience in a small class that is representative of our Analyst Program
•    Gain investing acumen across geographies and asset classes (debt and equity) 
•    Perform in-depth industry research to support our investment evaluation process
•    Get exposure to senior management and a network of alternative asset management industry leaders
•    Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities, including in-depth analysis on companies and industries (detailed valuation and financial modeling, sensitivity analysis, DCF analysis, and comparable analysis)
•    Develop and maintain financial models (Excel), forecasting and analyzing cash flow, capital structure, acquisition / disposition strategy, for existing assets and new investments
•    Prepare investment memoranda to support financial analysis, analyze market conditions (macro and micro), and outline strategy and investment returns

Qualifications:
•    Qualified candidates will ideally be pursuing a BA/BS degree (concentration in Finance, Economics, or related field preferred but not required)
•    Currently enrolled in an accredited program and must be on track to graduate in either Winter 2024 or Spring 2025
•    Excellent academic record – please include GPA on your resume and note that we may request a copy of your transcript
•    Applicable coursework or previous internship in the field of investments or financial markets
•    Excellent work ethic and high degree of professionalism and commitment to team and a goal-oriented environment
•    Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
•    Highest ethical standards and integrity

Investing Teams Overview

Strategic Capital – San Francisco 
Sixth Street Strategic Capital is a versatile global investing unit active across the entire Sixth Street platform. We make control equity, minority equity, preferred equity, debt, and hybrid investments – typically through large private transactions. Our speed, creativity, and deep sector knowledge has led us to invest in some of the world’s leading businesses, including Airbnb, AirTrunk, Caris Life Sciences, Chobani, Legends, Mindbody, Real Madrid, Spotify, and the San Antonio Spurs. Strategic Capital invests across industry verticals and geographies and draws on our firm’s sector experts and senior advisor network to deeply understand businesses and then create capital solutions tailored to meet management’s strategic objectives. 

Fundamental Strategies – San Francisco
Our Fundamental Strategies platform utilizes our long-dated capital base to invest in public markets across both credit and equity. Drawing on the scale and expertise across the Sixth Street platform, the team uses a value-oriented approach to identify the most attractive risk/return opportunities in different themes, industries, geographies, and asset classes. Sixth Street Fundamental Strategies invests across the capital structure, including in stressed and distressed loans and bonds, as well as public equities and structured credit opportunities. The team takes a collaborative yet active approach, including as leaders in restructurings and bankruptcy processes.

Direct Lending – New York/San Francisco
Sixth Street Direct Lending creates flexible, fully committed financing solutions for middle-market companies in North America and Europe. The Direct Lending team leverages the breadth and expertise of the entire Sixth Street platform to deliver fully underwritten solutions in a variety of industries and across the capital structure.

Growth – New York/San Francisco
Sixth Street Growth is the firm’s dedicated platform for making private investments in growth-oriented companies. Select current and past representative Sixth Street Growth investments include Airbnb, AirTrunk, AvidXchange, Gainsight, Heap, Kyriba, MasterControl, Paycor, PayScale, PaySimple, Stripe, and Spotify.

Infrastructure – New York
Sixth Street Infrastructure provides creative, customized solutions to companies and for assets in the global infrastructure and renewable energy sector.  Sixth Street Infrastructure has formed joint ventures with some of the world’s largest operators of infrastructure assets and primarily focuses on equity, debt, and structured investments.  Investments include solar, wind, hydroelectric power, conventional power, midstream, and social infrastructure, among others.

Credit Market Strategies / Structured Credit – New York* 
Sixth Street Credit Market Strategies (CMS) invests in the broadly syndicated leveraged loan and structured credit markets through a variety of investment structures, including CLO securitization vehicles and separately managed accounts.  Sixth Street Structured Credit offers investors diversified portfolios of CLO debt and equity securities.   

Structured Products – New York*
Sixth Street Structured Products focuses on asset/platform investing and origination across finance markets, including commercial and residential mortgages, renewables and energy finance, consumer asset classes, infrastructure debt, transportation, and commercial equipment. This recently launched business complements Sixth Street’s strategies dedicated to asset investing, asset-backed lending, direct-to-company financing, and syndicated leveraged loan investing, which have been among the core drivers of the firm’s business since its founding in 2009. 

RISC – New York/San Francisco
Sixth Street RISC is focused on the capital formation activities and business development strategy of Sixth Street. This group interacts with existing and prospective limited partners in Sixth Street (including public and private pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, financial institutions, and wealthy families) in an effort to capitalize our investment vehicles

*Credit Market Strategies, Structured Credit, and Structured Products will kick off recruiting in Spring/Summer 2023. Interns will have an opportunity to explore all three strategies throughout the summer. Eligible candidates may be considered for a return full-time placement opportunity within one of these teams.

The annualized base pay for this position is expected to fall between $95,000 - $110,000 and will be prorated based on the duration of the Summer Analyst program. The annualized base pay offered to the chosen candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by Sixth Street in its sole discretion.
