MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate preferred with one year experience in a related field.
Must be able to read and write. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to complete a work assignment sheet. Must know how to accomplish seasonal gardening tasks. Experience with hand and power operated gardening tools is required. Must have knowledge and ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to tools. Must be able to use a variety of tools to accomplish maintenance work such as tape measure, hammer, screwdriver, etc. Must be able to operate tractors, riding lawn mowers and utilize a variety of lawn equipment. Must possess a valid Virginia state driver¿s license and be capable of obtaining a government vehicle operator¿s license.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the qualifications above.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, carrying and crawling. Lifting up to 45 pounds and climbing ladders to prune or trim vegetation is required. In inclement weather the work can be strenuous and continuous.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is done outdoors and indoors. In working outdoors, the gardener is subject to discomfort from long periods in the hot sun or cold and being exposed to dirt, dust, mud and sometimes to chemical sprays/dusts. Protective clothing such as eye shields, respirators or safety shoes must be worn as required. There is a chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts and scrapes. Safety procedures and regulations must be of the foremost concern and carefully followed.
