Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the job without more than normal supervision: 1) Determining the nature and extent of repairs necessary; 2) Operating trade specific hand and power tools; 3) Sufficient knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Additional information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Must be in good physical condition. The incumbent is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing 45lbs (100 lbs. assisted) is required. Must be able to climb/descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel and work in uncomfortable positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work involves normal risks or discomforts associated with plant operations, facility management, and/or mechanical systems. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to extreme weather or temperature conditions. The employee is required to work from scaffolding, ladders, and staging platforms. Occasional exposure to dust or dirty conditions exists when visiting rooms or facilities undergoing repair, maintenance, or renovation. May be subject to industrial hazards including cuts, scrapes, bruises and falls. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (includes safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection and breathing masks). The employee may be exposed to hazards of operating power tools and industrial equipment including broken bones and dismemberment. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
