Job Description
Summary
This position is located within the N92 division of Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Air Station Key West, Florida. The purpose of this position is to manage the fitness/wellness programs for the Naval Air Station, Key West, and all tenant commands. The incumbent may also perform duties related to those of a fitness specialist and group fitness instructor.

Conditions of Employment
Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Incumbent must have the ability to walk, stand, run, bend, push and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Must have extensive experience in the field of physical education and knowledge of the principles as well as teachings in exercise physiology.
Knowledge of the safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair.
Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating community.
Skill and ability to provide fitness training and programming to individuals and groups of various sizes.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
Ability to competently and independently carry out fitness programs through the proper application of principles, concepts and techniques of fitness to satisfy specific needs of the community to be served.
Ability to effectively lead and supervise a diverse team of individuals to provide exceptional customer service and accomplish the NAS Key West Fitness Program mission objectives
Ability to conduct accurate fitness testing and provide recommended fitness program, based on fitness goals.
Ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports related to work within the Branch.
Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

KEY REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Education
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of three years' experience that demonstrates a working knowledge of the assigned program. A degree from an accredited college/university in a related field may be substituted for TWO year of experience.
Per DoD MWR Fitness Standards (issued 21 July 2016) this position is responsible for designing individual and/or group exercise programs as well as supervising, coaching, and instructing exercise in or outside of the fitness facility.
The three elements below sufficiently qualify an individual to perform their duties as a fitness instructor/personal trainer instructor:
1. a) High School diploma;
2. b) Fitness instructor, personal trainer or certification from an NCCA accredited health/fitness organization; and
3. c) Professional competence in the physical activity program or area.
The two elements below sufficiently qualify an individual to perform their duties as a group fitness instructor:
1. a) Primary approved certification from an NCCA accredited health/fitness organization, and
2. b) Approved certification in the physical activity or program area.
*Accredited health/fitness organizations are listed per DoD MWR Fitness Standards (issued 21 July 2016). Staff qualifications will vary significantly, depending on the type of participant accepted by the facility. Facilities that offer programs designed to appeal to children, older participants or to participants with known health problems; the staff should have special qualifications, usually an advanced, clinically-oriented certification from a nationally recognized professional organization.
Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain the following within 60 days of hire:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification
Automated External Defibrillator Certification
Blood-borne Pathogen Training
Navy Basic Fitness Certification
