Summary This position is located at the Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities. Applicant must be able to frequently lift and carry very heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing over 50 pounds, operating heavy powered mowers on grades or pushing wheelbarrow loads of cement, etc. Required to stand, walk, bend and kneel for lengthy periods of time. Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outdoors. Exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Required to follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, and safety glasses and exercise proper handling of equipment to avoid serious injury in the work area. Must be able to work days, weekends and holidays as needed. Qualifications Six (6) months of laboring experience required. Must be able to work under general supervision, responding to initial oral or written instructions and completing assigned tasks. Knowledge of the processes, which require remembering directions and/or sequences is required (e.g., mixing cement) Knowledge and skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy, power equipment (single-function power lawn mowers with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws, jackhammers). Knowledge to work safely with heavy tools (axes, picks, tampers, chain saws, etc). Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades of power mowers or in operating weight handling devises when moving heavy loads. FWS Allowances and Differentials This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position. All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives may be paid but are not guaranteed. Up to 25% recruitment and/or retention incentive may be authorized for positions offering at least a guarantee of 10 hours per week. Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
