Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Operates CH-47F rotary wing aircraft and associated flight simulator(s) as an instructor pilot located in Fort Novosel, Alabama. Incumbent requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. MUST attach a copy front and back. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter. Incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain an annual Army Class II Flight Physical. This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes instructing pilots in flight maneuvers and tasks in the CH47F helicopter; instructing and evaluating pilots in basic/advanced flight maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations, instruments flight procedures and terrain flight to include nap-of-the earth flight techniques; operating the AH-64D/E Longbow while instructing and evaluating the copilot/gunners station integrating the Target Acquisition Designation System, Fire Control Radar, Radio Frequency Interferometer, weaponry, laser operations, fire delivery, aerial gunnery techniques, tactical digital communications and navigation; conducting classroom instruction concerning the CH47F aircraft systems and operating procedures; monitoring standardization requirements, and recommending changes in lesson plans, program of instruction, training methods and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). CERTIFICATIONS: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. MINIMUM FLIGHT HOURS REQUIREMENT: Total Flight Hours- 1500 Pilot in Command - 250 Night Flying - 75 Flying Time in the Last 12 Months - 100 (may be waived) Instructor Hours - 500 Instrument Hours - 75 Actual Weather- 10 FLIGHT HOURS MUST BE DOCUMENTED ON THE RESUME IN THE ABOVE FORMAT. (Must attach a copy of official flight records such as DA-759, DA-759-1, DA Form 2408-12 or equivalent) In-service placement for current Federal Employees flight hour requirements may be subject to waiver based on OPM Qualification Standards which may be accessed at: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/IORs/gs2100/2181.htm Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
