Summary

**This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2025. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be November 18, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.]
  • Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

GS-10 Grade Determination: Applicants must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.

Examples of Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-9 experience includes but is not limited to: lead DRT for a group of DRTs at the full performance level and below, providing input on performance, resolving daily workplace issues, and maintaining efficient workflow. Provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a general knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor.

Assignment: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-10 - Functions as a lead DRT for a group of DRTs [at the GS-9 level and below]. Provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
  • Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work.
  • *Ability to resolve informal employee complaints.
  • *Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.

Preferred Experience: Interventional Vascular Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist operates independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the coordination and performance of Vascular procedures and Vascular Diagnostic Radiology. Performs procedures within the Vascular interventional section which requires the use of needles, syringes, Contrast media, wires, catheters and other specialized equipment. s to maintain effective control of the Vascular/Interventional department by coordinating, organizing, and executing the work potential to expedite work flow patterns within the department. Validates images sent to VISTA. Performs all diagnostic and invasive procedures to include all administrative duties associated with each. Trains new technologist in angiography and specialized procedures; angiogram with run off, balloon angioplasty, EVAR, TCAR, embolization's, amongst other procedures.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-8. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is the GS-10.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds, pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above the shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; distinguish basic colors; good hearing (aid permitted); good vision; speed in working and emotional stability. Must have the ability to wear a lead apron for long periods of time.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
