Healthfirst's 2025 Summer Trailblazer Internship is a 10-week paid program beginning on June 2, 2025. This is an immersive and interactive learning experience that lays a foundation for continued leadership development. Interns do impactful work, collaborating with other interns, employees, and business leaders to solve current business problems and deliver solutions. Who We Are: For nearly 30 years, Healthfirst has been serving New Yorkers. We helped pioneer the value-based healthcare model-where hospitals and physicians are paid based on patient outcomes-because our company was founded on the belief that insurers need to be true partners in the health system. Position Summary: The Actuary team conducts analysis of financial risk to provide management with information that will guide strategic organizational decisions. The Actuary Intern will work within the Actuary team, as well as communicating with other areas of the Finance Department, to assist the team on fundamental actuarial projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with large and complex data sets, including both financial and healthcare data


  • Perform data analysis and financial modeling


  • Summarize and communicate results to management


  • Produce reports to government and regulatory entities


  • Provide support on core actuarial functions such as forecast, reserving, and pricing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate students must be a junior or senior at an accredited institution or have graduated within 12 months of the program. Graduate students must be enrolled at an accredited institution or have graduated within 12 months of the program.


  • Will not require sponsorship for employment


  • Eligible to work in the U.S.


  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA from an accredited school


  • Knowledge of project management concepts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Students currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an accredited Bachelor's degree program, or an accredited Master's degree program in Math, Economics, Finance, Business, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related programs


  • Strong analytical skills


  • Strong interpersonal skills


  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills


  • Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point


  • Advanced Excel skills - pivot tables, v-lookup, graphs/visuals


  • Basic knowledge of programming preferable (ex. SQL, Python, VBA), including ability to create queries and analyze data sets

Hiring Range:

  • Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $39,208 - $52,000
  • All Other Locations (within approved locations): $34,091 - $49,920

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.

The hiring range is defined as the lowest and highest salaries that Healthfirst in "good faith" would pay to a new hire, or for a job promotion, or transfer into this role.
