Role
GM's Global Electrification Battery Systems (GEBS) group is seeking a skilled Cell Advance Engineer to join cell component Integration team. The candidate should be committed, dedicated, responsible, focused, detail-oriented, able to adjust in a fast-paced working environment, collaborate well with other staff members with a shared vision and demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills. This candidate will be responsible for coordinating all cell materials and electrode characterization as well as failure analysis (FA) and to collaborate with lab and multi-functional partners to solve some of the industry's problems This candidate will be collaborating with material engineering and analytical teams.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Cell Integration Team PoC of all analytical activities
- Responsible for planning and coordinating all analysis and characterization
- Coordinate all incoming materials analysis and characterization
- Collaborate with material engineering and analytical team
- In process check step by step analysis and final product check
- Coordinate onsite/In-situ analysis
- Coordinate offsite/Ex-situ analysis
- Provide cell materials characterization expertise/problem solving related to the developed and integrated product
- Performs critical interpretation of analytical data related to cell component integration product and analyzes information to drive mechanistic understanding and electrochemical behavior.
- Ensure data analysis consistency and identify needed measure to feed into standard work, CTSs, and specifications.
- Performs critical interpretation of analytical data; analyzes information to drive mechanistic understanding
- Be able to work in a team environment and provide expertise to the team effort
- Communicate new concepts and draw insight from discussions with coworkers.
- Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times
- Assist the team toward solutions, clear roadblocks, and ensure streamlined by designing and executing materials and electrochemical characterization experiments to study factors that influence the degradation of battery components under different testing conditions.
- Implement a systematic investigation approach for identifying the root causes of failures and develop recommendations for corrective action
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- MS in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields
- 5+ years of industrial/academic experience related to Li-ion battery analysis
- Experience in electrochemistry, specifically on lithium-ion batteries and related material and electrode characterization
- Expertise and hands-on experience in operating analytical instruments including but not limited to GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDAX, XPS, Raman, IC, BET, PSA, EPMA, conductivity, and other electrode characterization techniques is a plus.
- Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times
- Demonstrable track record of learning new technologies and utilizing these skillset to have a tangible impact in a short time frame
- Ability to onboard and integrate existing in-house knowledge with new discoveries and challenges being tackled in developing high-energy cells
- Ability to identify and execute testing metrics to shorten the cycle of learning
- Experience working with moisture sensitive materials in a glovebox or dry room
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields
- 10+ years of industrial/academic experience related to Li- ion battery analysis
