The Lilly RNA Therapeutics Team is seeking an independent, self-motivated, and agile scientist with a proven track record of enabling the design, development, and implementation of analytical methodologies for the characterization and analysis of small molecules and oligonucleotides. The successful candidate will have significant experiences in UPLC, LC-MS, CD, UV-vis and fluorescence-based methods and analytical method development. He/she will be able to provide scientific input to cross functional teams from early discovery to early development and explore new analytical techniques for sophisticated modified oligonucleotides and their conjugates.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as an analytical representative in cross functional teams to support therapeutic oligonucleotides discovery.
  • Development and execution of analytical methods including but not limit to LC, LC-MS, NMR, CD, UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy for the development and characterization of oligonucleotides, and their conjugates.
  • Explore, evaluate, and implement novel analytical techniques to overcome analytical challenges in the characterization of therapeutic oligonucleotides.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab instruments such as UPLC, LC-MS, osmometer, nano drop in good operational conditions.
  • Continuous improvement of existing analytical methods/assays as needed.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams to establish novel nucleotide flow schemes to support our exploration into new chemical space for RNA therapeutics.
  • Ability to learn new technologies fast and exploit effective scientific concepts and methods across multiple areas.
  • Document experiments, data, technical report, and findings electronically in an accessible manner.
  • Present findings, progress, and data proactively and regularly in group and department meetings
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to scientific staff and help group members growth and continued technical and professional development via excellence and knowledge sharing.
  • Possess collaborative mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.

Basic Requirements:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemistry or other similar scientific area with 0-2+ years of relevant post-graduate experiences

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Strong knowledge of nucleic acids chemistry, and oligonucleotide analytical techniques.
  • Expertise in separations science, including but not limited to RP, HILIC, HIC, IEX, SEC and CE.
  • Expertise in mass spectrometry including ESI ionization with a range of mass spectrometer designs (QToF, Orbitrap, QQQ).
  • Experience in UV-vis, CD and fluorescence-based assays for oligonucleotide analysis
  • Prior working experience in bioanalysis is a big plus.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-driven attitude with ability to own and drive projects into success.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and effective people skills.
  • Capable of continuous learning, open-minded, highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle ambiguity.
