General summary:

Under the direction of the Vice President, Clinical Informatics, the Application Architect provides comprehensive technical expertise related to the support and implementation of the software applications utilized by the organization. These responsibilities include design and implementation of application architecture for test and production environments, the design and management of effective patch management process for third party applications, design and development of application security modules, problem analysis, root cause analysis and release management. The Application Architect supports the Application Team to ensure that the application strategy is sound and adheres to standard Tempo policies. The Application Architect leads the application teams in architectural design, development and documentation of enterprise standards. The application architect will serve as a change agent, project manager and advisor. The application architect maintains exemplary professional interpersonal communication skills, collaborates well with teams at all levels of the organization. Participates in vendor management to ensure compliance with hospital and department policies and procedures; understands and supports the client’s governance processes. Must be an intelligent, articulate, and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the Tempo IT management team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience in administering enterprise level applications across multiple environments preferred.
  • Experience in managing technical aspects of application projects including conversions and ETL processes.
  • Experience and background in HL7 interface design and development and monitoring.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux/AIX, Windows/Server, SQL, Oracle as well as various scripting languages.
  • Proven ability to develop structured technical architecture of enterprise level applications.
  • Deep experience in application architecture with an emphasis in database and OS integration
  • Understands Internet and client/server architectures.
  •  Excellent communication skills.
  • Supports business owners in the creation of strategies and roadmaps for the implementation and utilization of technology.
  • Ensures implementations are on time and on budget.
  • Manages key vendor contracts and relationships.
  • Assists with annual policy review and updates to ensure compliance as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience with the establishment and transformation of applications.
  • Familiar with clinical and ancillary department workflows

WORK EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Information Systems of Healthcare Informatics or Computer Science.
  • At least 3 years of progressive responsibility with multiple application environment required. Prior implementation of EHR and experience with a multitude of 3rd party applications. Must possess a broad base of knowledge related to technology across healthcare.
  • Must display the ability to apply clinical EHR design and implementation strategies across clinical settings.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communications skills and be able to work effectively with all levels of personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Conditions typically associated with an office environment. While performing the essential duties and responsibilities, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. May be frequently required to sit, stand or walk. Moderate to prolonged reading, typing, and computer work. Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity that may include lifting up to 50 pounds. Subject to exposure to all environmental hazards associated with healthcare and office work
