Job Description

  • Salary: $151,000 - $161,000 
  • Who May Apply: U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
  • Location: Asheville, NC

 

Current staffing: 1 Service Chief, 1 Assistant Service Chief, 22MD’s, 1 NP, 1 PA, 1 Administrative Officer (AO) and 1 Program Support Assistant (PSA). 

  • Low- Acuity Clinic (LAC). 
  • 2 mid-levels provide acute care to approx. 25 veterans per day during the hours of 8:00am – 6:00pm. 
  • Ambulance Service consist of 4 Paramedics and 4 EMT’s. 
  • Ambulance is staffed with a Paramedic & EMT until 12:00am Monday thru Friday.  Weekends the Ambulance is staffed until 8:00pm. 

 

Practice Environment Description include: 

 

  • This position will report to the Section Chief of Emergency Room Medicine Department. 

 

  • This service provides care during days, and occasional nights to 50-75. veterans per month.  This is working 36 clinical hours during a 2-week period. 4 hours of administration time is given to each part-time provider to complete any documentation requirements including coding inquires, training modules (TMS), ALS/BLS, etc. 

 

 

Opportunity Highlights of this position include: 

 

  • Employee can take part in 40 hours paid VA funded (or non-VA funded) CME hours per fiscal year. 
  • Employees are encouraged to take part in optional education opportunities provided on-site by the VA Learning Resources department.

 

Work Schedule/ Tour of Duty & Call Coverage include: 

 

  • Compressed; includes Weekends, Nights, and Holidays.
  • Night call 1-2 times per month.

 

Candidate Quals (Basic / Preferred) include: 

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible. 
  • Preferred 2-3 years of Emergency Medicine post residency in outpatient setting. 
  • 3 years is ideal but less can be considered with experience in rural location. 
  • Non-OR Airway Management level 3 compliance required. 
  • Point of Care Ultrasound competency preferred.
