Position Summary

The Department of Computational and Quantitative Medicine at Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope has an opening for an Assistant Professor.

This opening is under the Division of Mathematical Oncology in this department. We are interested in an individual with expertise in mathematical modeling in evolutionary biology and significant understanding of molecular cancer biology. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, and have a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications in computational and evolutionary biology. The applicant must have expertise in mathematical and computational methods to study evolutionary dynamics, population genetics, dynamical systems, fluency with analysis and interpretation of multiple forms of genomic data, and Bayesian network modeling, with relevant peer-reviewed publications of applications ranging from protein-protein interactions, to tissue development, and cancer or diabetes. Demonstrated expertise and experience working closely with clinicians and biologists in a translational, interdisciplinary, and collaborative team environment is strongly desired. In addition, a national reputation for excellence in cancer research demonstrating leadership and mentoring skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are desired for eligibility to the rank of Assistant Professor. The applicant should have demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
• Expertise in Mathematical Oncology and contemporary computational methods in cancer research
• Expertise in molecular cancer biology
• Expertise in one or more scientific computing languages, including Python, R, Julia, or MATLAB
• Expertise in contemporary bioinformatics tools and analysis methods for bulk and single-cell genomic data
