Job Description
An Associate Data Engineer is a pivotal role working within a cohesive cross-disciplined agile team on the product backlog. You will work alongside other engineers, as well as other agile team members and consultants.Â

In this role you will have a balance of supporting our existing data delivery and billing systems, delivering to our platform modernisation strategy, unplanned work, and contribution to critical initiatives.Â
You will need a dedication to technical excellence, not only in writing code, but also in team-collaboration, testing, documentation. Good communication skills are essential, as well as a “can-do” attitude and willingness to work across various disciplines if required.Â
As part of this role, you will:Â
- Be working in AWS Cloud development, GitHub, Jira, ConfluenceÂ
- Participate in technical design in collaboration with other engineers and specialistsÂ
- Follow coding style standards and guidelinesÂ
- Write unit, integration, and automation testsÂ
- Learn Visa Spend Clarity domain conceptsÂ
- Write documentationÂ
- Provide support to other teams Â
- Participate in knowledge sharing with other team membersÂ
- Practice agile scrum methodologyÂ
- Contribute to improving team agile processesÂ
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Experience required in:
- Cloud environments – AWS preferred
- Data ETL/ELT transformation (e.g., Python, Glue, SSIS)
- Serverless technologies (e.g., S3, Lambda, DynamoDB)
- SQL (foundational skills)
- Data modelling and design experience
- Scripting (e.g., PowerShell)
- Data governance
- CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, Octopus, CodePipeline)
- Source control (e.g., Git)
- Performance monitoring and resolution
- Working in an agile team environment
Desired experience in:
- .Net development
- Test automation
- Gen AI tools
What will also help:
- 2-3 years’ experience in professional software development with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA)
- Effective communication skills to make complex concepts accessible for business team members
- Good problem-solving skills, comfortable working in complex, challenging environments with a high attention to detail
- A growth mindset, constantly aspiring to learn and develop
- Self-motivated, outcome oriented with the ability to progress multiple priorities concurrently
- An ability to master new tools and skills as required
