Treeline Biosciences is a new biotechnology company, founded by an experienced team of biopharmaceutical scientists and executives, committed to developing new medicines against difficult to drug targets in cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We are pursuing a uniquely integrated approach that applies modern and emerging tools in genomics, lead discovery, medicinal chemistry, and computation to reduce the time and risks of drug discovery. Our bi-coastal team works highly collaborative between our sites in Watertown and San Diego with the goal to bring better medicines to patients.

About the Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Associate Director / Director of Biophysics to join our team. With a strong background in biophysics assay development and implementation, and a track record of contributing to multidisciplinary drug discovery teams, this position will play a critical role in driving Treeline’s portfolio forward.

This is an exceptional opportunity to bring and implement your vision for supporting lead discovery at Treeline. As the Head of Biophysics, you will provide strategy and execution for your function and manage a team of biophysicists across our Watertown and San Diego sites in support of all lead discovery activities. You will provide biophysical leadership on project teams and play a key role in implementing strategies for hit finding, validation, and mechanistic studies. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary lead discovery team and work closely with chemistry, biology, and medicine design to accelerate and push the limits of small molecule drug discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Head Biophysics group by providing strategy and execution for your function.
  • Manage a team of biophysicists across our Watertown and San Diego sites to support portfolio activities.
  • Build and lead hit-finding and drug discovery cascades to support hit identification, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization campaigns.
  • Develop research solutions, design, and implement new techniques and strategies to study protein binding interactions.
  • Employ biophysical methods enabling mechanistic studies to determine the mode-of-inhibition for promising hits.
  • In collaboration with chemistry, biology, medicine design, and all lead discovery functions, characterize and establish SAR to rapidly drive the hit-to-lead process.
  • Provide biophysics leadership to project teams.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or related discipline.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in biotech/pharma industry with a track record for biophysics support for hit-finding, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization to delivering small molecule development candidates.
  • 5+ years of management experience, with a track record in building and managing a team of scientists with diverse levels of experience, with a keen desire to grow and develop the careers of team members.
  • Ability to develop hit finding and validation strategies and execute on them.
  • An explicit track record of impacting all stages of the drug discovery process through biophysical experimental design and results.
  • Experience in a wide array of biophysical assay development approaches, including NMR, SPR, ITC, DSF, MST, BLI, Mass Spec, etc.
  • Experience in Fragment, covalent, or DEL screening.
  • Direct experience in working with and targeting challenging proteins.
  • Experience in establishing and efficiently managing CRO activities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams.
