Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock Finance and Strategy consists of Finance professionals in disciplines such as Corporate Accounting, Financial Planning, Accounting Policy, Tax, Business Management, Treasury, and Corporate Strategy. The Finance Platform Strategies (FPS) group is responsible for long-term management of the Finance operating platform which includes both third-party as well as proprietary solutions, and technology initiatives which span all of the above disciplines.

Role Description:

The FPS group drives the strategic vision for and implementation of initiatives to enhance our platform capabilities and delivers day-to-day oversight and management of the platform. The team collaborates closely with partners across the Finance organization and BlackRock’s Aladdin Engineering team. 

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Snowflake Developer. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data solutions within the Snowflake Data Cloud. This role requires a deep understanding of Snowflake's cloud-based data warehousing capabilities, including its scalable compute, storage, and extensive ecosystem. Provide leadership in establishing standards and best practices for other data analytics, reporting, and dashboard developers within the Finance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise-level applications using the Snowflake platform.

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions which support decision-making and provide actionable insights.

  • Manage data migration into Snowflake, including extracting data from various sources, transforming it into a usable form, and loading it into the Snowflake platform.

  • Implement dynamic data filtering tailored to user roles and organizational scope.

  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness through stringent controls and audit frameworks.

  • Utilize third-party tools such as FiveTran and Informatica to minimize custom development and enhance data integration.

  • Understand how to structure data models, including relationships between tables, to support efficient and accurate reporting and analytics.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of Snowflake development experience

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and ability to write complex queries; strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and ETL processes. Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python for automation and advanced data manipulation. Familiarity with big data technologies and cloud platforms – AWS & Azure:

    • A solid understanding with Azure Databricks, Pyspark for data processing and analytics using Microsoft Azure.

    • Familiar with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for efficient pipelines.

    • A solid understanding of Azure cloud services such as Azure data Factory, Azure synapse, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Stream Analytics.

    • Proficiency in Kafka and ADF for data pipelines /migration

    • Harmonizing raw data into a consumer-friendly format using Azure Databricks.

  • Financial Services Knowledge: Familiarity with financial services industry, Asset Mgt in particular

  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with data visualization and data-driven tools and technologies, e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, TM1, Python, SnowSQL, dbt

  • Prior experience with Cognos Analytics is a strong plus

  • Certification in Snowflake

  • Experience with Snowflake's cloud-based architecture.

  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
