Background Layout Artist - 2D Action Adventure [Vancouver]

Titmouse is looking for a Background Layout Artist based in Vancouver for a 2D action adventure series. The Background Layout Artist will work closely with the Background Supervisor and produce the various backgrounds needed based on key designs and storyboards/animatic provided by previous departments. 

Estimated Length of Project: September 16th, 2024 to May 2nd, 2025

Compensation: $950 - 1200/week, commensurate with experience and skill level

Hours per week: 40

Reports to: Background Layout Supervisor

Format: Hybrid/remote, but BC candidates are highly preferred.

*If the work for this position is performed within the geographical jurisdiction of the collective bargaining agreement, it will be covered by that agreement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design exterior, interior, and reverse-angle shots of a background key design.
• Draw the backgrounds according to the various camera angles depicted in the storyboards/animatic.
• Develop a map of the overall setting/environment and a lighting guide indicating source/direction of light.
• Collaborate and take notes from the Art Director, Director(s), and Background Supervisor.
• Communicate with your team and ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner

Qualifications

• Fundamental understanding of form, lighting, design, and perspective as it pertains to environments.
• Professional working experience with Photoshop.
• Strong time-management skills, ability to work well under pressure, take direction, and address notes from supervisor
• Must be eligible to work in the Titmouse office in Vancouver.
