Job Posting Title: Business Development Director - Industrial Engineering

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented and experienced Business Development Director to grow and support the national Industrial Engineering portfolio of programs and projects within our Energy practice. The Business Development Director will conduct, direct, and coordinate the sales, strategy, marketing, research, and planning activities associated with Industrial Engineering business development. AECOM's clients in this area are primarily private, but also can include public utilities; units of government at the federal level, original equipment manufacturers, and technology developers.

The leader will define the growth plans for various market sectors and cultivate private client relationships that result in business growth under the broad definition of Industrial Engineering. The Business Development Director will focus on developing business to provide professional services supporting clients by providing planning, front end and detailed engineering, project management, program management, procurement and construction management services. Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation, an acute passion for developing solutions, a current understanding of the different markets that exist under the Industrial Engineering banner and the ability to collaborate with a strategic interdisciplinary team of operations and business development professionals.

DCS-Energy

AECOM's Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for power, energy efficiency, renewable energy and new energy clients. The Industrial Engineering arm of DCS Energy is today focused in two areas: 1. Maintaining and growing our traditional client base which includes serving companies in the Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, Mining and Foods sectors; and 2. Transition to New Energy opportunities in the areas of hydrogen production, carbon capture, and the transportation of both via complex pipeline systems. There is meaningful synergy between strategy 1 and 2 in that we are following a number of our historical Oil & Gas customers into New Energy opportunities where we have strong relationships and a meaningful advantage from directly relevant experienceWe connect knowledge and experience across our global framework to bring together a unique combination of engineers, planners, scientists, and project managers who advance cleaner, secure, and more sustainable energy solutions.

We are seeking an individual with:

  • Proven expertise in business development and market strategy development/execution
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills
  • Strong capture and proposal management skills
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex processes or ideas
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a strategic interdisciplinary team of business development and project professionals
The responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement multi-year growth strategy, including development of key performance metrics, client account plans, service offerings, market trend analyses, and brand elevation/thought leadership
  • The ability to identify, develop, and propose new projects; negotiate master services agreements; structure and close transactions; manage senior-level relationships internally and externally; and maintain a sharp focus on client satisfaction throughout project/program lifecycle
  • Build collaborative solutions for clients across AECOM business lines
  • Help recruit and build a team of professionals to support the growth strategy
  • Establish and develop relationships with private sector customers who allow us to grow our business strategies defined above, but also leverage our project management professionals as the staff to "walk the halls" and solicit business from established customers.
  • Proven ability to support Energy projects and programs during execution and implementation
Job Description

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Construction, Science, or closely related field with 10 years of relevant experience within the Energy industry or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proven expertise in business development and market strategy development/execution
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills
  • Strong capture and proposal management skills
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex processes or ideas
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a strategic interdisciplinary team of business development and project professionals
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Industrial Engineering client base and familiarity with some of our past experience (as AECOM or URS).
  • An understanding of Staged Gate project delivery methodology and the strategies to differentiate our services depending on the phase of the project
  • Demonstrated successful financial closing of multiple projects
  • Fundamental knowledge of the new Energy market sector which includes hydrogen production, carbon capture and sequestration, storage and transportation of final product.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Sciences, Energy/Sustainability, Business, or a related field
