Business Intelligence Engineer (Remote)

Summary

The BI Engineer role plays a key seat in developing our data warehouse and other BI products. This role will take existing skills and experience, as well as, available training to provide a variety of data products to resolve and enhance new and existing business processes. Our solutions span the full spectrum of BI from requirements gathering, ETL, modeling and report building. This role, sitting in an existing team, will develop a relationship with colleagues, business partners and leaders to drive forward reactive and proactive solutions to meet their needs for analytics and insights.

The BI Engineer will work independently within established guidelines for daily tasks and grow into higher roles as experience is gained. All levels of our team are empowered to seek improvements and recommendations to existing processes. The typical environment is a mature Microsoft stack that includes, SSIS, Azure DevOps, PowerBI, SQL (on-prem and Azure), enterprise controller. In our existing framework, engineers integrate SSIS, Stored Procs, Views, PowerBI, etc. to build our processes. We source data from typical on-premises RDBMS, APIs, files, and other proprietary systems. Currently, we have an initiative to transition to a Delta Lake model for a consolidated data warehouse using Databricks, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Purview and other modern components. This new direction is expected to build new skills and carry significant improvements and impact to our business partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly.
• Partners with business SME to generate and refine requirements in a remote environment.
• Produces data analysis, data modeling and complex ETL design transform raw data into information.
• Work within existing frameworks to maintain consistent code.
• Recognize new enhancements to processes as relevant.
• Operate within Agile environment to provide continuous value.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot existing processes to reduce error rate and resolve issues.
• Provide and accept mentorship and training by colleagues.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

3-5 years related experience and/or training with Microsoft oriented toolsets and/or EDW environments.

Other Information

2 or more years of database experience writing code such as, but not limited to: SQL, TSQL, stored procedures, SSIS and other ETL tools. Basic understanding of modern software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps), and source control (Git).Understanding of basic database administration. Good verbal and written communication skills.

Position Pay Range: $80,000-110,000 plus annual incentive plan eligibility
