POSITION SUMMARY The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Bureau of Property Management is seeking to hire an experience Electrician in the Chicago Loop area. This position will be responsible for performing journeyman electrical work including installing, altering, repairing, and/or maintaining electrical systems and equipment which operate on alternating or direct current circuits, high voltage lines through panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers. Additional duties include installing and maintaining ballasts and lights, performing preventative maintenance, trace and locate component failures, and maintaining battery and generator systems. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Under general supervision, receiving day-to-day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer, performs journeyman electrical work relating to the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of extensive electrical systems and equipment for CMS facilities in the Chicago and Northern Region as needed. • Performs preventative maintenance inspections of electrical equipment and systems and intiiates work orders to correct deficiencies and prevent breakdowns. • Traces and locates component failures. • Maintains battery and generator systems to ensure proper function and integrity of systems at various CMS facilities. • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. • Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four years full-time journey level electrician experience; or 8 years of full-time journey level electrician experience. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience working with tools, methods, and standard practices of the trade. • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience working with established national, state, and local electrical codes. • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, simple sketches, and drawings. • Prefers extensive knowledge of inspecting and/or perceiving unsafe or faulty conditions in production, transmission, and utilization of electricity. • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience using tools of the trade such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and other calibration and testing equipment or apparatus. • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience making rough sketches and estimating time, labor, and materials necessary to complete work orders. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends. • Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders, work from heights (on ladders, scaffold, platforms, and lifts), stand for long periods, and lift and move heavy equipment, materials, structures, and furniture up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75-100 pounds with assistance to perform repairs and in the maintenance of facilities. • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various sites/facilities. • Requires the ability to used agency supplied material/equipment (e.g., radio, mobile phone, PPE, etc.).
