Job Description

AECOM is a leader in climate adaptation and sustainability and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Climate Adaptation Lead for our East Water Region employment in one of our Florida or North Carolina offices.

The selected candidate will join the Water Business Line as a Sustainability and Climate Adaptation Project Technical Lead reporting directly to the East Water Regional Business Line Leader. The primary emphasis of the position is to promote resilience, socioeconomic and environmental sustainability in design, planning, and policy projects. We are looking for a technical expert with strong business development, design, and resilience strategy development skills to work with our multidiscipline teams and develop approaches to address issues related to natural disasters, climate change, and stormwater management. This position will focus on climate adaptation and resilience solutions for local, state, and federal government and other public sector clients. The intended induvial will cover the Eastern United States from Maine to Florida. The position will require travel to meet with clients and project teams.

The individual will support a client-facing team in the design, implementation, and management of organizational sustainability and resilience programs This is accomplished through employing climate assessment, rigorous economic and strategic planning techniques and developing innovative analytical approaches to providing solutions for delivering sustainability in varied domestic and international contexts.

Qualified candidates will have excellent oral and analytical and writing skills with a professional consulting background in climate change adaptation and experience in an planning, policy modeling and design. The candidate must have a demonstrated expertise in sustainability, with a particular emphasis on climate change.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading business development opportunities and general growth of AECOM's climate adaptation and resilience services
  • Generate business growth and achieve annual business targets with clients
  • Deliver marketing plan and work together with marketing manager to implement plan throughout the year
  • Contribute to winning large scale opportunities
  • Conduct and lead regular business development meetings
  • Participate in building up business development community within the region
  • Represent AECOM with potential clients, government agencies, potential and current partners, and competitors
  • Leading resilience strategy development and concept, preliminary, and final design of nature-based solutions and hardscape features to provide flood control
  • Coordinating with our multidiscipline teams consisting of planners, scientists, and engineers on projects that include coastal studies, hydrology and hydraulics, flood risk management, coastal restoration, and design.
  • Coordinating state and federal agencies to gain consensus and approvals for work in jurisdictional areas and on designated facilities
  • Civil engineering capabilities associated with the civil design for resiliency projects
  • Coordinating with clients and internal staff to identify critical planning issues
  • Preparing and delivering presentations
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental, Civil, Coastal Engineering) from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineering License
  • 10 years of related experience or demonstrated knowledge of local government climate change/sustainability policy and program development.
  • 10 years of experience at a planning consulting firm, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, conducting and/or overseeing analysis, Proposal writing, project wins; client management, along with experience in managing a team
  • Experience on adaptation planning, particularly policy and program design
  • Experience on climate change vulnerability and risk assessments that consider an array of climate impacts, including sea level rise, precipitation, and temperature and development of adaptation strategies to reduce impact
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental, Civil, Coastal Engineering) is highly preferred
  • Previous experience in client account management, customer development or marketing
  • Expertise in relationship building that increases account expansion and leads to increased revenue opportunities with existing clients
  • Success in working closely with service line leaders, partners, practitioners, and other sales executives to develop strategies and tactics that drive targeted programs and win business
  • Experience navigating a complex ecosystem of stakeholders with demonstration of creating and maintaining relationships internally and externally
  • Excellent quantitative skills;
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Detail-oriented: Strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn more and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills are critical.
