Job Description

Company Overview

Club Car boasts over 60 years of industry-leading innovation and design, initially focused on golf cars and then expanding to commercial utility vehicles and personal-use transportation.

Based in Augusta, Georgia, every detail of design, fabrication and assembly at Club Car is executed with an uncompromised desire for superior performance. Manufacturing quality products is paramount to our employees and has been the driving force behind our company for over 60 years. It's also why we were named one of EHS Today's America's Safest Companies.

Our relationship with customers and approved dealers is equally important, with a worldwide distribution network including over 350 distributors and dealers.

The Club Car Cooperative Education Program is designed to expand and supplement the engineering training of talented and qualified students. Each participant will gain exposure to Club Car products and engineering processes. Knowledge and skills attained each rotation will supplement classroom learning and will prepare the program participant for a career with our business units. We are looking for performance-driven, innovative leaders who understand the importance of collaboration and customer focus.

Concentrations Offered:

Mechanical Engineering

The selected Mechanical Engineering Co-op candidate will support in the research, design, and design verification of a variety of mechanical subsystems utilized in Club Car's vehicles. These can include gas, diesel, and electric powertrains, suspensions, brakes, steering, cosmetic and structural plastics, seats, and accessories for golf, utility, and consumer off road vehicles. The selected co-op candidate can expect to be given an engineering design problem for which a solution is needed and for which he/she will need to work within a team setting to identify potential solutions, validate selected solution, and release validated solution into production. The work tasks can include the opportunity to learn 3D modeling of designs utilizing Creo; analysis of components and subsystems utilizing tools such as AquaPro (DFMEA, DVP), Excel, Matlab, or Ansys (Finite Element Analysis); and release of components and systems through PLM software.

Electrical Engineering

The selected Electrical Engineering Co-op candidate will support in the research, design, and design verification of a variety of electrical subsystems utilized in Club Car's vehicles. These can include electric motors, battery technologies, vehicle control modules, telemetry/telematics systems, connectivity devices, power electronics, and power management systems. The selected co-op candidate can expect to be given an engineering design problem for which a solution is needed and for which he/she will need to work within a team setting to identify and validate potential solutions. The work tasks can include circuit design, integration of third-party solutions, and development of software to control hardware function or implement system interface protocols.

Software Engineering

The selected Software Engineering Co-op candidate will support in the design, implementation, and software unit level testing of software modules included in the vehicle's control system or the vehicles connectivity solutions. Based on the project assignment the programming languages the co-op could be introduced to would be MatLab Simulink, C, C++, C#, and Python. The work tasks can include modification of vehicle control software, automation of software design/testing processes, prototyping of connectivity technology solutions, and scripting/automation data analytic tools and reports.

Cooperative Rotations

Students selected to participate in the Club Car Cooperative Education Program will be provided an opportunity to experience differing rotations for each semester, dependent on business need and availability:

Test Engineering (standard rotation)

In our Test Operations, cooperative program participants focus directly on applications of engineering in our Test & Development organization. Skills developed in this rotation include communication, testing/experimentation, basic statistics, application of basic engineering theory to business problems, data analysis, planning, interpersonal relations, product knowledge, and documentation.

Projects completed during this rotation may include work in the following areas: test planning, data collection, test objective setting and methodology, performing test set up, calibration of equipment, data collection, and analyzing and reporting test results. Participants will gain exposure to design intent and performance as well as an in-depth knowledge of our equipment.

Sustaining Engineering (standard rotation)

In Sustaining Engineering participants will gain a broad-based introduction to engineering through work on existing products. The skills gained during this rotation are manufacturing resource planning (MRP) system knowledge, approaches to problem solving and root cause analysis, product knowledge, engineering documentation, engineering graphics, CAD (Pro/E), VA/VE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering), and manufacturing processes. The Co-op will assist the engineering team by working through a formal root cause analysis process, completing engineering change notices (ECN's), making drawing changes, and assisting with additional engineering documentation. The Co-op will have the opportunity to facilitate communication between manufacturing and engineering and will gain a strong understanding of how these two departments work together to create a safe and efficient product for Club Car customers.

New Product Development (standard rotation)

During this rotation, the Co-op will work with the engineering team on the cost-effective creation and proposal of new products and will have the opportunity to work on existing NPD projects. As other rotations, this rotation will continue to build on skills already learned, with emphasis on building this additional skillset: external relations (i.e., supplier, customer, and marketing), project management, and presentation skills.

Manufacturing Engineering (optional rotation)

In the Manufacturing Engineering organization, Co-ops will learn manufacturing processes, statistical analysis, engineering documentation, interpersonal skills, root cause/problem solving techniques, and product knowledge. The co-op will work closely with manufacturing engineers to solve complex issues related to design and process implementation in a manufacturing setting. As such, the Co-op may have interaction with the production team to develop the processes, equipment, fixtures, and/or other items required to introduce the new product into production.
