CNC Programmer

Job Purpose

Create and/or edit programs and set up sheets used in the operation of CNC lathes and mills. Design fixtures, maintain data and records for the programming area.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Accurately and consistently document all performed tasks on appropriate records (work orders, inspection sheets, maintenance logs, etc).

• Inspect documents for previously completed operation sign off and verify part counts before beginning any manufacturing operation. Do not proceed if discrepancies are found.
• Perform required maintenance checks of equipment before beginning any manufacturing operation. Do not proceed if problems are found.
• Prior to use, ensure measuring equipment has been calibrated, is not beyond calibration date, and is in good working condition.
• Follow established protocol to maintain ID & traceability of product and documentation. Do not perform operation if ID is questionable.
• Reference applicable drawings, specifications, and Manufacturing Process Instructions before beginning any manufacturing operation.
• Follow department Standard Process Instructions.
• Provide responsive support in the production of close tolerance components. • Resolve machining related quality issues.
• Create, modify, and verify programs for all shop equipment.
• Design and program work holding fixtures for varying levels of production. • Reduce component cycle time by optimizing programs, cutting tools, and fixturing. • Create and maintain process documentation for legacy products.
• Research, test, and implement new cutting tool, work holding, and programming technology.
• Ensure all new CNC programs introduced comply with and support product flow through the facility.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education

• AS Degree in Manufacturing Technology preferred or equivalent work experience. • Minimum 4 years of experience working with various CAD/CAM software packages (Esprit/MasterCAM & Solidworks preferred).
• Minimum 8 years of experience working with CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment. Medical device manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Experience with various inspection methods including mechanical inspection and CMM inspection.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD, CAM)

Qualifications

• Communicate effectively with team members verbally and in writing. • Interpret Engineering specifications, Drawings & GD&T per ASME Y14.5. • Demonstrate professional standards of behavior at all times.
• Generate toolpaths, solid models, and drawings in CAD/CAM software. • Develop and improve advanced CNC machining and inspection processes. • Quickly absorb and apply knowledge with hands-on mechanical aptitude. • Manage expectations while planning your projects aggressively.
• Practice active follow-up and effective escalation to keep commitments on track. • Navigate ambiguity to deliver results with urgency and a positive, adaptable attitude. • Embrace accountability for self and others at all times.
• Practice efficient, effective decision making based on data.

Working Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees may be exposed to hazardous materials. Employees need to consult SDS in their work area.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk or sit, occasionally for long periods of time; use hands to hold, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk or listen. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (seek assistance for greater amounts). Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
