Overview

Reporting to the Emphasys HFA Director of Development, the COBOL Developer is responsible for writing testable, scalable, and efficient code in COBOL, and participating in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). They will work closely with Development and Product managers in planning product development, establishing and meeting estimated timelines.

Responsibilities:

• Learn and understand the architecture of the Single Family, Multi Family and Financial suite of HFA products.
• Assist the team with implementing new modules or system functionality specifically in the areas of user interface, user experience, optimization of queries, process architecture, and development best practices.
• Implement standardization across products to facilitate products' on-going maintenance and transferability.
• Support Product Managers in the design and deployment of new modules, add-ons, or functionality.
• Manage all development environments for the Microfocus products.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure product support and new development.
• Ensure loading COBOL systems on test and production environment(s) and setup if necessary.
• Reproduce critical issues related to development and fix them as well as converting backlog items to software tasks based on the architecture.
• Conducting testing and Change control deployments.
• Contribute feedback and input to implement best design practices.
• Adhere to reporting standards set up by upper management.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in COBOL development, including all aspects of SDLC.
• Self-disciplined, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Good team player and self-starter with excellent communication.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Experience developing formal estimations for project completion.
