Job Description
At AES, we're accelerating the future of energy, together, and redefining the company for improved customer outcomes. The Communications Leader supports the development and integration of crucial communication plans needed to ensure alignment and understanding of the utilities' business and strategic priorities. This position reports to the Chief Customer Officer and is responsible for leading the team driving both AES Indiana and AES Ohio's media and public engagement.
- Lead the development and implementation of a fully coordinated media strategy for AES US Utilities
- Ability to provide leadership, strategic focus, and management oversight for proactive and reactive media outreach across platforms.
- Serve as an advisor and partner to the business on media relations and crisis communications.
- Develop a team to deliver a set of key outcomes and results and to feed a culture that is encouraging, collaborative and results-oriented.
- Ability to build, maintain, and expand successful relationships with regional and local media.
- See opportunities to build AES Indiana's and AES Ohio's reputation and lead proactive outreach efforts
- Stay ahead of emerging media trends and channels, and update strategy accordingly
- Coordinate and support partnerships with external organizations that raise awareness of AES US Utilities initiatives in the community
- Lead other external communications and marketing efforts as the need arises
- Help to facilitate two-way communication and feedback sharing between the global and local teams
- Engage with and ensure coordination with other Communications practice areas such as Brand Marketing, Internal Communications, Creative Services, Digital, and Brand and Culture Development as needed
- Share standard processes across the global Communications team
Requirements:
- BA or BS with 10 to 15 years of confirmed experience
- Discernment with ability to understand sophisticated issues
- In-depth understanding of the company's strategy and direction for the future
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively
- Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving and organizational abilities, big picture thinker
- Strong project management, organizational, strategic planning, analytical, creative and communication skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Pro at forming effective relationships and influencing people
- Consistent record to be a global team leader and player
- Approach to work should be taken charge, proactive, and very detailed-oriented
- Should also be able to effectively prioritize work and exercise mature judgment
