Job Description
Summary:
The Compensation Manager position administers the employee compensation program for the organization, analyzes positions to determine appropriate pay, and configures system for compensation planning and increases. In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager, they will also assist with open enrollment, and working with our benefits providers and vendors.
Primary Job Functions:
- Manages employee compensation program that align with organizational objectives for recruiting, retention, and employee engagement;
- Analyzes positions to determine the scope of employee responsibilities and requirements and determines appropriate base pay;
- Reviews a wide range of relevant compensation data to ensure the organization’s compensation policies are equitable and competitive;
- Configures system for compensation planning and increases;
- Creates consistent compensation guidelines that support SPLC’s work and organizational culture;
- Oversees salary structure creation and maintenance;
- Advises on salary increase requests;
- Advises managers on making effective pay decisions that support employee engagement and comply with compensation philosophy and budgetary guidelines;
- Participates in compensation surveys, conducts research and analysis on market competitiveness, pay equity, and compensation trends;
- Provides ongoing support to managers and staff at all levels;
- Assists with entering information into the HRIS for payroll;
- Works with payroll to ensure that all benefit premium deductions are set up accurately, timely, and updated as needed;
- Reviews employee timesheets to ensure accuracy;
- Advises managers and employees on state and federal employment regulations, collective bargaining agreements, benefits and compensation policies, and personnel procedures;
- Participates in the onboarding process for benefits and leave and time/attendance;
- Assists with coordinating workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator. Follows up on claims;
- Assists employees with new hire/benefits open enrollment, terminations, benefits renewal and special enrollments and with submitting important forms and other documentation for insurance policies, retirement plans, taxes, wellness programs, FMLA and parental leave; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications –
Education and Related Work Experience:
- Must have 5 years of combined work experience with compensation and benefits;
- Must have prior HRIS experience; working knowledge of ADP a strong plus;
- Previous payroll/time & attendance experience;
- Advanced or Expert level Excel skills; and
- High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; must be able to make presentations to groups and relate to all levels of employees;
- Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality;
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills;
- Must have the ability to prioritize work;
- Must be able to work under pressure or deadlines;
- Ability to research and analyze various types of data information;
- Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations or government law;

Other Special Considerations:
This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
