Job Description
About Compose.ly
We are an industry-leading SEO and content marketing agency that delivers measurable results through SEO insights and the creation of blog content, white papers, case studies, landing pages, and more.
Founded in 2017, Compose.ly was born from a team of entrepreneurs and content marketing experts with a proven track record of building successful brands. Compose.ly is a rare thing—a growing, profitable startup that has yet to take any outside investors. We’ve built this business through grit, hard work, and smart decision-making. We're organized, experienced, and in growth mode, and we are looking for fellow entrepreneurs to join our team.
Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated Content Editor to join our collaborative team. You are detail-oriented, thrive in a fast-paced environment, can juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and have a knack for improving content quality while maintaining efficiency. You love to develop and foster relationships and enjoy (remote!) interpersonal interactions.
This role requires authenticity and, at times, scrappiness. Our team environment is a highly collaborative one where in-house editors work together to help one another succeed, support freelance contributors and colleagues across departments, and provide clients with outstanding experiences and content. The ideal candidate is a great teammate and someone who excels at delivering clear, constructive feedback, mentoring writers, and finding creative solutions to challenges.
This is a full-time, remote role for someone based in the U.S. or Canada, working Monday through Friday during U.S. business hours (PST, MST, CST, or EST).
What You'll Be Doing
Content Excellence
- Edit diverse content types, including blog posts, whitepapers, and web copy created by a team of trusted freelance writers and freelance editors across multiple industries.
- Ensure all content aligns with AP Style and client-specific guidelines.
- Provide actionable feedback to writers to enhance quality and consistency.
- Apply SEO and digital content best practices in your approach to editing.
- Support AI-assisted content production for select clients who’ve opted in, maintaining clarity between human- and AI-generated content.
Team & Community Support
- Provide feedback to and mentor freelance writers and editors to help them grow and succeed.
- Participate in writer and editor recruitment.
- Collaborate with the Account Management team to develop client-specific resources and align on content strategies.
- Attend client meetings, as needed, to ensure alignment on voice, tone, and content goals.
Quality Monitoring
- Monitor content trends and address client feedback to refine deliverables.
- Audit content for plagiarism and compliance with AI usage policies.
- Contribute to process improvements across departments to enhance workflows and outcomes.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of editorial experience
- Expertise in AP Style
- Strong understanding of SEO and content marketing principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Proficiency with remote work tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Notion
Preferred:
- 5+ years of editing experience
- Background in digital/SEO editing
- Agency or in-house editorial experience
- Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) and SEO platforms (e.g., Frase, SEMrush)
Benefits
Joining Compose.ly means joining a team of smart, collaborative individuals with ample opportunity for growth and upward mobility. We offer:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans
- Life and disability insurance
- 401k retirement plan
- Unlimited PTO and 13 paid holidays
Our Commitment to Equity
At Compose.ly, we value the humanity that makes each of us unique. Our team members are encouraged to bring their full selves to work, and we embrace the intersectionality that exists between gender identity, ethnicity, age, disability status, and all aspects of our greater humanity.
