Advanced Cyber Operator
Primary Place of Performance: Springfield, VA
Mandatory Requirements: U.S. Citizenship and TS/SCI Clearance
Years of Experience: Junior-Mid Level (3-7+ Years)
JFL Consulting is currently seeking a talented and motivated Advanced Cyber Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will use cutting-edge tools and techniques to actively identify, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity threats across network and application environments. Leveraging advanced analytics, this role hunts for indicators of compromise and performs deep investigation of potential vulnerabilities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a cybersecurity operations role identifying and responding to security threats
  • 2+ years conducting vulnerability assessments and cyber threat analysis
  • Hands-on experience hunting threats across global enterprise networks
  • Track record of identifying advanced persistent threats through data analysis
  • Expertise with security information and event management (SIEM) solutions for real-time monitoring and analytics
  • Proficiency in network and host-based intrusion detection systems (IDS/IPS)
  • Knowledge of common cyberattack techniques and threat intelligence
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls, proxies, antivirus software, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools
  • Strong analytical skills for log review, packet capture analysis, and malware reverse engineering
  • Scripting skills to build detection and analysis tools (Python, BASH, PowerShell)
  • Understanding of common networking protocols like HTTP, DNS, and Encrypted TLS traffic
  • Knowledge of system and application vulnerability assessment techniques
  • Experience with security orchestration and automation response (SOAR) platforms
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to distill complex security analysis for senior leadership
  • Ability to operate independently as well as collaborate cross-functionally in an agile manner

Duties to Include but not limited to:

  • Conduct real-time monitoring for advanced cyber threats across client environments
  • Perform network infrastructure and application stack vulnerability assessments
  • Identify security gaps and make recommendations for risk mitigation
  • Respond swiftly to contain identified threats and attacks 
  • Conduct packet capture analysis to extract threats for further investigation
  • Develop custom scripts and tools to aid in threat detection and response 
  • Create advanced cybersecurity reports, risk matrices and heat maps for stakeholders
  • Continually expand knowledge of latest cyberattack methods and threat intelligence


Required Education and Education and Experience:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as computer science or engineering. In lieu of a degree, 5 years of directly related operational experience may be substituted.
  • All Advanced Cyber Operators must hold an IAT Level II certification (Ex. Sec+, CISSP, GCIH) and a CSSP Auditor certification (Ex. CEH, Pentest+, CYSA+) as defined and described in DoDD 8570.01, 8570.01-M, 8140.01-03 and as amended.
