Job Description

About Fraym

Fraym generates precise socioeconomic and behavioral insights for people at any geographic level, including down to the town or village level. Organizations around the world use our location-based data to understand social and economic dynamics, design comprehensive programs, and monitor and evaluate investments that national statistics and polling data cannot reveal. Fraym has developed replicable and highly scalable methods for producing actionable and comparable data across any geography of interest. Driven by our work with partners like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, World Bank, African Development Bank, UNDP, and other global institutions, we now produce and deliver critical novel datasets for key policy and advocacy issues.

About the team

We're a diverse team of talented engineers whose specialties span ML engineering, Cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and web development. We build the software and systems that produce Fraym’s geospatial data products, support data science experimentation, and enable scalable analytics. We care deeply not just about writing code that works, but code that is long-lasting. We value collaboration and emphasize learning, whether through informal pair programming or group study sessions, to get to the best solution.

About the role

  • You will be responsible for building core infrastructure around Fraym's data storage and management platforms

  • You will develop features to strengthen data processing pipelines for raster, vector, and other tabular data

  • You will also collaborate with other Engineering team members to develop and maintain internal APIs and platforms.

  • You will contribute to ML modeling pipelines and other internal tools that support Fraym's data science and experimentation work

About you

  • You have spent 1+ years developing software in Python

  • You have experience accessing, storing, and manipulating raster and vector data in a variety of formats

  • You are comfortable writing unit and integration tests, working with relational databases (esp. Postgres), cloud resources (esp. AWS), and Docker

  • Other nice-to-haves include: experience with SQLAlchemy, GitHub Actions (or other CICD tooling), machine learning, bash scripting, or R

  • You share a passion for developing high quality software with the purpose of gathering hyperlocal data in some of the world's hardest to reach places

  • You are collaborative, and enjoy working with teammates to determine the best way to tackle open-ended tasks

  • You maintain a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • While the position is fully remote, we ask that candidates reside between the UTC-8 and UTC+3 time zone range (North America, South America, Europe, Africa).

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience

  • Professional development and learning opportunities

  • Stay healthy and happy through our comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance including other ancillary benefits

  • Save for the future with our 401(k) program

  • Take time away from the office through our Flexible Paid Time Off

  • We are committed to fostering a positive work-life balance culture

  • Be a part of a community and take part in our lunch & learns and team outings

  • We are a “Growth Culture” that provides opportunities for career advancement and professional development in a fast-growing company
