Data Integration Engineer

General Summary
The Data Integration Engineer is responsible the efficient management and accurate translation of camera data between the shooting stages and the VFX department. This position is responsible for complex, iterative round-trip camera data transfers between the stage and VFX for 90+ shooting units across the show.

Job Functions

• Coordinate closely with stage-based Camera/Lighting teams and AD teams to capture camera tracking data on live shooting units.
• Communicate and facilitate the delivery of camera and set data between Stages and VFX while monitoring and reporting any issues related to visual effects compatibility.
• Matchmove camera moves shot on stop motion stages using 3DEqualizer software.
• Manage camera motion control data to Maya and compare the Matchmoved shots against CG camera moves.
• Translate camera moves generated on the shooting stages into CG space and responsible for distributing data to VFX team, while maintaining established naming conventions defined by stage and VFX teams.
• Establish and coordinate camera team survey workflows, processes and procedures under the guidance of the CG Supervisor, Set Survey Lead and Matchmove Lead.
• Work closely with Camera Operators, Previz, Techviz and VFX Leads for technical breakdowns and other camera related needs for VFX; control the operation and setup of witness cameras, as required.
• Capture camera movement to enable the creation of digital cameras that fit accurately and convincingly into stage plates.
• Interface digital cameras with Dragonframe animation software, Kuper and Arc motion control systems.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of related experience, preferably in motion picture computer graphics.
• Understanding of photography and the effects of different lenses on perspectives.
• Understanding of motion control rigs and camera systems and managing motion control data.
• Ability to reproduce exact camera moves within a computer environment.
• Professional familiarity with tracking camera moves, setting up camera exposures, positioning and mounting cameras via C-stands and grip equipment, required.
• Professional familiarity translating motion control camera data to and from Maya and creating CG camera moves, required.
• Experience using Kuper, Arc motion control and Dragonframe, preferred.
• Experience with Maya, Nuke, 3DEqualizer, or equivalent 2D and 3D Matchmove tracking software, required.
• Strong understanding of the stop motion process.
• Must be detail oriented and highly organized.
• Proven ability to interact with peers and managers to exchange semi-complex information related to assigned activities.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
