The Scoop:
The Data Modeler is responsible for developing data models to meet the needs of the organization's information systems. Working on various project teams, this position works closely with Business Analysts and Software Developers to determine overall requirements. Serves as the technical expert and advisor to information technology and the business for data modeling needs.
What You Get To Do:
- Analyzes, validates, creates, and designs data models, structures, and processes
- Conducts logical data modeling, leads, and performs data conversion mapping when replacing existing systems (manual or computerized)
- Works in conjunction with Database Administrators and Data Architects to develop physical data models which will cover logical requirements, model integration and maintenance issues in order to meet performance expectations/objectives
- Utilizing technical expertise, assists Database Administrators with performance related physical data base planning (indexing, normalization etc.)
- Assists Business Analysts in developing data flow analysis of business processes and developers in data-related problems
- Manages the flow of information between programs through the use of relational databases; stays informed on the organization's best practices and uses of its data
- Investigates and resolves data relationship issues
- Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy
- Reviews systems under development and related documentation
- Assists in setting standards, metrics, and best practices for the data models
- Maintains the Enterprise Data Dictionary; revises company definition of data as defined in data dictionary (information about data, including name, description, source of data item, and key words for categorizing and searching for data item descriptions)
- Determines and enters changes to data dictionary descriptions, including type, structure, and intended use of data within system
- Acts as a formal and/or informal mentor to less experienced associates
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience
For consideration candidates will need:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Eight (8) to twelve (12 ) years' related experience in developing Oracle RDBMS based systems, management, design, and implementation of data warehousing projects including data architecture and requirements gathering
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; design software and development software specifically in:
- Strong working knowledge of Erwin CASE Tools, Visio, Toad (or equivalent database tools)
- Web use of relational databases, data security, and protection issues
- Excellent working knowledge of RDBMS development fundamentals (SQL, transaction management, indexing strategies and client/server development skills) and data warehouse technology

Travel
This position requires may require minimal domestic travel and attendance maybe required at various local conferences and meetings.
