Position Summary:

Bunge Global Research Data Science group is looking for a quantitative researcher with minimum 3 years of experience in large scale analysis of commodity related data. This position serves as the bridge between data scientists and data engineering.

This position will be an integral part of the Bunge Economic Analysis team analyzing large Bunge internal and publicly available data sets and developing advanced modelling techniques using best practices in data science for advancing the Global economic research functions in forecasting market dynamics inclusive of crop production, customer behavior and price analysis globally.

Essential Functions:

  • Transformation and analysis of large-scale historical weather datasets such as global GFS and ECMWF on the raster level including geospatial manipulation and summarization.
  • Strong knowledge of spatial analysis tools such as python geopandas, gdal and ArcGIS, as well as other custom 3rd party applications
  • Proficient in a wide range of statistical, econometric and machine learning modeling techniques while able to pay close attention on data preparation and exploration. Firm knowledge of python and jupyter server environment is a must.
  • Analysis of large-scale internal and public commodity-related data to develop predictive models using statistical, econometric and machine learning tools
  • Able to understand the performance and limitations of the developed models as well as being able to interpret those results within the specific context.
  • Development of dashboards and custom tools to deploy findings to firm users in html/javascript/dash etc.
  • Present findings to a large group of business users; effectively summarize and communicate results to the global group for risk management.

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum MS degree in a quantitative field (physics, statistics, engineering, computer science, math, econometrics, etc.).
  • Three or more years of research or industry experience time series analysis, statistical application, machine learning to real world datasets, and related data-driven fields.
  • Expertise in Python and or R as well as their standard analytical packages. Additional knowledge in HTML/Java is a plus. Some experience with Linux and familiarity with relational databases and SQL is desired.
  • Ability to ingest, normalize, model, present, deploy and support functioning analysis tools to users in UNIX and Windows environment.
  • Experience with weather and crop analysis is desirable.
  • Intellectually curious and creative, willing to share knowledge, and adaptive to new techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and business acumen.
  • Solid foundation in mathematics and statistical modeling to be able to solve complex business problems via statistical models, machine learning algorithms, text analytics/NLP etc.
