Database Engineer

Job Description

Fragomen, an AmLaw 100 Firm and the leading global immigration services provider, is seeking a Database Engineer who will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, optimization, and support of our firm's various database platforms.

The candidate will require senior level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and the ability/desire to learn other database technologies and new areas of integration with existing on premise and cloud technologies to enhance application availability and performance.

How will you make a difference as a Database Engineer with Fragomen?

• Assess risks and impacts arising from a business disruption and make decisions and determine actions independently and expediently to eliminate those risks and ensure the continuity of business.
• Understanding of firm and industry best practices and business requirements as it relates to Microsoft SQL Server and other database technologies.
• Responsible for reviewing, learning, and recommending database system design and architecture in line with the firm's technical needs.
• Maintaining documentation of diagrams, processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides and change management logs.
• Design, implement and ensure that systems achieve 100% uptime 24/7/365 operational availability.
• Act as technical project manager responsible for project plans, timelines, resource management and related communications to stakeholders.
• Participate in making decisions and determining actions independently and expediently to eliminate risks and ensure the continuity of business.
• Act to support all technical projects arising from the project Management office (PMO).
• Provide training and mentoring on problem identification, analysis and troubleshooting techniques and best practices to Operations teams.
• Participate in a 24/7 on call rotation and monthly patching cycle.
• Flexible to work outside of normal business hours as required.

Let's talk if you have the following qualifications and experience:

• 5-10 years working with SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2017 and/or 2019.
• Knowledge of Database Design and Architecture.
• Proficient with Performance Tuning by reviewing Execution Plans and identifying and resolving TSQL Query inefficiencies.
• Implement and Support SQL Server High Availability with Emphasis on SQL Server Transactional Replication and Always On Availability Groups.
• Experience developing, trouble shooting and deploying SQL Server Integration Packages.
• Keep up to date with new releases of Microsoft SQL Server and advise users of the aspects that pertain to them.
• Ensure that system have appropriate maintenance in place including backups, index maintenance, consistency checks and statistics maintenance.
• Experience preferred with technologies such as PostGreSQL, ETL (SSIS), Data Modeling, coding languages such as Python/PowerShell/C#, Cloud technology such as Azure or AWS, any DevOps or Automation experience.
• Perform query optimization and code tuning to improve database performance.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
• Manage database source control and ensure that changes are properly tracked and documented.
• Design, develop, and maintain SSIS ETL processes for data integration.
• Configure and manage database replication to ensure data consistency across multiple servers.
• Implement and maintain database availability groups for high availability and disaster recovery.
