Job Purpose:

This position will perform development tasks for designated IT projects and applications including but not limited to Web-based application development, orchestration, automation, database design and development, and custom application development. The position may also be responsible for maintaining critical operational application systems that support the business or business customers. This person must effectively work with the business and/or customer to develop requirements and documents for sign-off, work with business and/or customer IT resources to develop project plans, test cases, deployment plans, etc., and provide guidance to junior IT developer resources.

Essential Functions:

Act as a development resource on new development efforts or enhancements to existing applications/software systems - 70% Work with IT managers/Application Administrators on new development, enhancements, or maintenance for existing custom-developed applications, Cloud automation, DevOps, or packaged software Program, test, debug and document software applications Application prototyping Develop test cases, scenarios, and scripts to ensure application quality, as well as develop all online help and documentation Support change management for all source and deliverables Construct reusable, logical code using standard conventions and best practices Assist in the preparation of detailed designs from pre-approved requirements for programs, modules, and/or routines, including complete documentation Develop realistic schedules and cost estimates for software development tasks Participate in the development and documentation of software process definition, implementation methods, and practices for process and product control Establish policies and procedures for control and release of software components Support configuration management, independent testing, technical documentation, training, and maintenance activities related to software development May be required to develop custom interfaces among existing or new systems/applications May be required to provide instruction and assistance to and coordinate/ direct efforts of other developers Participation on project teams as technical lead or development specialist - 20% Work with IT Architecture Standards and Planning in identifying and participating in infrastructure and process improvements - 10%

Experience:

3 to 5 years of work experience Minimum number of years of related work Experience: 3+ years' experience in current and relevant development Proficiency in a variety of development environments will also be an advantage Experience working on project teams This position requires applied knowledge of development operations, design, and development Additional knowledge areas include in-depth knowledge of client/server architecture, software architecture knowledge, and user requirements analysis Technical - Analytical Skills: Software development skills, specifically Microsoft Application Development (Visual Studio, VB6.0, and .Net) Web development skills and knowledge such as ASP, ASP.Net, VBScript, VB.Net, C#, HTML, Java, JavaScript, etc. Full systems development lifecycle knowledge, preferably on Internet and eCommerce applications Strong grasp of Networking and Internetworking Concepts Data modeling, Database Design, and Performance Tuning knowledge preferred Functional and Technical Requirements analysis knowledge preferred Command of Open Source and/or Microsoft technology platforms and development environments highly desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Exercise good judgment, and set priorities to carry out work assignments Soft skill set includes team building and listening Strong Interpersonal skills Special Skills: Client/server concepts and prototyping tools knowledge Dynamic Link Library knowledge, DBMS middleware, Structured Query Language programming, Virtualization and LAN basics and tools knowledge (e.g., C++) Tools, Platforms, Methodologies, Knowledge Required: Expertise with Linux, Windows Server 20xx, HTML, ADO.Net, (command of .Net Framework class libraries), COM/DCOM, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL, Visual SourceSafe HTML, DHTML, SQL Server, ODBC Visual Basic, C++, Java, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Powershell, Python, PHP, ASP, ActiveX, COM/DCOM TCP/IP, UDP and other networking protocols Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SourceSafe, Chef, Puppet and Web/e-business tools is a plus Demonstrated experience preparing and migrating applications to the cloud services is a plus.

Education:

Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Scripting of day to day operational tasks using industry standards (examples: Puppet, Chef, Ruby, PHP, Perl. Powershell)

Create/Develop/update getting started guide, self-help, how-to, FAQ support, and documentation for supported services

Create/Develop/update runbook documentation and processes for day to day operational support teams

Experience working in a Scrum development model would be a plus

Work closely with service architects, engineering and infrastructure teams to help improve and grow knowledge

Ability to quickly respond to incidents, analyze and remediate to restore service

Day to day operational support of supported services

Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure development best practices are learned, followed, and applied

Initiate client troubleshooting sessions and recommend technical solutions for how to resolve

Create and update development services best practice and troubleshooting runbook

Build team and customer relationships and communicate development best practices

Design, learn and teach other developers

Interface with software vendors for support as well as application and infrastructure teams

Develop, learn, update and follow production support and operations plan, including monitoring the solutions

Work Environment:

On-call support may be required Occasional weekend and evening work may be required Shift work may be required On occasion or as required, remote work may be possible Train and teach other team members

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Leads work teams (assigns, coordinates, and checks work) for employees performing similar work Supervises contract employees
