The Stanford Medicine Technology and Digital Solutions team was formed to provide the Stanford Medicine community with the most innovative technology services as efficiently as possible. Led by Michael Pfeffer, CIO and Michael Halaas, Chief Operating Officer and Associate Dean in the School of Medicine, the unified organization brings together the best of the School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care IT to enable new opportunities for groundbreaking work and compassionate care. Together, the Technology and Digital Solutions team will work to break down historic organizational barriers to enable even greater collaboration across Stanford Medicine hospital and clinics, and the entire University.

A Brief Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Operations, the Director, IT Sourcing & Operations provides direct oversight to core IT procurement, payment, and strategic vendor management for the Stanford Medicine TDS department of over 850 FTEs. This position has a strategic and business focus rather than a purely technological focus and is responsible for the major functions of sourcing, vendor management, procurement, and payment for TDS.

The Director manages a team of managers and vendor management specialists within TDS to organize and drive these efforts. They will work closely with TDS senior leadership to create and execute on sourcing strategies that align to the organization's objectives and priorities. In addition, the Director will align the TDS functions with core support units within Stanford Health Care and Stanford School of Medicine (including finance, accounting, HR, supply chain, contract administration, etc.) to represent TDS and to create seamless interaction for specialty services involving information technology. This position provides oversight and daily operational supervision to sourcing, procurement, and invoicing within TDS. We are searching for someone who is hands-on, self-driven, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

What you will do
  • Independently performs a variety of complex sourcing and procurement activities to deliver value, cost savings, and risk mitigation.
  • Negotiates complex vendor contracts and monitors contract compliance to ensure terms and conditions are being met and the expected value is delivered.
  • Create sourcing strategies and execute on these strategics
  • Create processes, practices, and procedures to provide purchasing for TDS
  • Obtain stakeholder and subject-matter insights/business requirements to ensure sourcing solutions meet business needs, identify process re-engineering opportunities to increase efficiencies
  • Establish strategic alignment by linking TDS strategy with the organization's business imperatives and a planning process that communicates effectively about costs, impacts, and progress
  • Identify programs to measure benefits, particularly productivity-related, to ensure value is being added consistent with the enterprise productivity goals.
  • Develop and build strong relationships with TDS leadership and be recognized as a valued partner and influence business decisions
  • Continually improve vendor performance through effective contracts and vendor performance management methodologies
  • Build, retain, and develop a high performing team of professionals

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university Required
  • Master's Business Administration degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications
  • Ten (10) years of experience in sourcing including eight (8) years of experience in negotiating pricing and contract terms and conditions for IT related purchases.
  • At least five (5) years of supervisory responsibility

  • Advanced negotiation experience developing financial decision-support models and negotiation support analyses.

  • Ability to identify, quantify, and drive change to realize cost savings opportunities
  • Ability to lead effectively and utilize social influence to achieve organizational objectives

  • Knowledge and depth and/or breadth of expertise in informational technology disciplines e.g., network operations, databases, software application and interfaces, computer operations, cloud, quality assurance and systems management.
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement policies, processes, and tools
  • Must be a self-starter and can operate independently with minimal supervision
  • Expert proficiency with Excel, Word, and Power point presentations
  • Experience leading and developing vendor management resources
  • Strong analytical, executive level communication and interpersonal skills

Licenses and Certifications
  • CPSM - Certified Professional in Supply Management preferred .
  • CPM - Certified Purchasing Manager (Certification By The Institute For Supply Management) preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $81.45 - $107.92 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
