The Director of Safety plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and subcontractors across a wide range of projects in restoration, reconstruction, and roofing projects throughout the country. This position requires extensive travel to different project locations and collaboration with various teams to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety programs and initiatives.

What you’ll do….

  • Safety Program Development: Develop and implement company-wide safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Customize safety programs for specific project requirements
  • Training and Education: Design and facilitate safety training programs for employees and subcontractors to promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to best practices
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and areas for improvement. Develop action plans to address findings
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into safety incidents and near misses, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with safety regulations and industry standards, ensuring that the company remains in compliance at all times
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for project sites
  • Safety Reporting: Prepare and submit regular safety reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and trends
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for new projects, evaluating potential safety hazards and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Contractor Management: Evaluate subcontractors' safety programs and practices to ensure alignment with company standards. Provide guidance and assistance in enhancing their safety performance
  • Safety Communication: Foster clear and effective communication of safety expectations, goals, and initiatives to all project teams and stakeholders
  • Safety Equipment and Tools: Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment and tools on job sites, and oversee equipment inspections and maintenance
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of safety programs, seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • Budget Management: Manage the safety department's budget, including allocation of resources for training, equipment, and initiatives
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required

What you’ll need…

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are a plus
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of proven experience in safety leadership roles within the construction, restoration, reconstruction, or roofing industry
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations and industry best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, with a track record of improving safety performance
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools
  • Advanced skill level using Excel required with proficiency in all other Microsoft products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong desire for continuous process improvement
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • High ethical standards and integrity
