A Brief Overview
The Employee Relations Specialist will assist in training and counseling all levels of management on employment law, performance management, employee disciplinary procedures, and termination procedures. The Specialist will lead general investigations and assist with higher complexity investigations by conducting interviews and recommending solutions. This role will also be responsible for acquiring up-to-date knowledge of new and existing employment laws.
What you will do

  • Lead general investigations by conducting interviews, preparing and preserving documentation, and providing recommendations to management and other stakeholders
  • Assist with moderate and high level complexity investigations
  • Update and maintain ongoing reports for the department
  • Perform ad hoc requests for Employee Relations inquiries
  • Recommend solutions to senior team members and department management
  • Provide guidance and assess risk levels on Employee Relations matters
  • Train and counsel all levels of management on employment law, performance management, employee disciplinary procedures, and termination procedures
  • Schedule and respond to Employee Relations consultation requests
  • Collaborate with ER team members and other stakeholders to resolve unemployment claims, ADA claims and other Employee Relations matters
  • Acquire knowledge of new and existing employment laws and regulations
  • Assist HR Management with the development and implementation of new policies and procedures
  • Train and mentor junior team members
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
  • Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy


Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years related experience


Preferred Requirements

  • Previous work experience and/or education in Human Resources or employment law
  • Previous experience with conflict management and resolution
  • Previous supervisory or management experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and Human Resources policies
  • Ability to quickly change working priorities without loss to quality of work produced
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality when dealing with private data and documents
  • Strong social perceptiveness and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook



Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Frequently remains stationary throughout a typical business day
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other rooms
  • Occasionally positions self to access drawers and shelves of various heights
  • Frequently reaches for and handles paperwork and files
  • Constantly communicates with customers, coworkers, and management in-person and on the phone
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information
  • FirstBank does not currently offer fully remote positions, except as required by law. The actual number of in-office days that may be required will vary by business unit, role, and business need.



Salary Range
$26.30 Per Hour to $35.00 Per Hour
