We are seeking an experienced and visionary, customer obsessed leader to manage and grow a set of high-performing teams responsible for developing and scaling the Customer Area platform at Adyen. This platform is the central interface where merchants can efficiently manage payment, financial, and data workflows in one place.

As the Engineering Lead for the Customer Area, your primary focus will be to drive innovation, scalability, and exceptional user experiences by:


What you will do

  • Unifying management: Ensuring merchants have a seamless portal to manage their entire Adyen product suite;
  • Streamlining usability: Creating a consistent, intuitive design and navigation experience across all functionalities;
  • Enhancing self-service: Empowering merchants to complete tasks independently at scale through self-service tools;
  • Global adaptability: Delivering localized experiences that meet regional needs, such as translations, time zones, currencies, payment methods, legal documents, and region-specific features (e.g., tipping, donations, and gift cards);
  • AI-Driven innovation: Leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing to create smarter, more personalized, and intuitive experiences for merchants. Examples include AI-powered search to help merchants find what they need faster or predictive analytics that offer actionable insights tailored to their business;
  • Scalability and resilience: Building a platform that evolves to support diverse merchant needs while maintaining performance and reliability.


Who you are

  • A proven leader with experience managing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, including managing managers, with a track record of delivering complex, scalable platforms;
  • Skilled in building large-scale, distributed systems, ideally with expertise in Java or similar programming languages, and a passion for software architecture, scalability, and maintainability;
  • Experienced in leveraging AI, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing to drive innovation and deliver smarter, more intuitive, and predictive solutions that enhance user experiences;
  • You like to keep things simple, love dealing with uncertainty and get things done.
    You are a great story teller, and are comfortable talking to tech & non-tech, as well as merchants and internal stakeholders from every part of the business;
  • You’re curious about what our biggest merchants are facing and empathetic to solving problems that help all merchants.
