Job Description

Position Description:

Nidec is currently seeking an entry level mechanical engineer to help in the design new geared products. Their primary function will be the support of new product development with emphasis on materials, manufacturing, and quality. They will interact directly with the customer to define and design the product to meet all requirements. This position will also include the engineering support of all existing products where needed. This position is in our Akron, OH facility where the main gearbox and transmission assembly is located.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Aid in the design gearboxes, transaxles and other drives with all components including material selection. Designs will include spur, helical, worm and bevel gearing.
• Support new designs by creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and bills of material.
• Communicate directly with customers to define design requirements and provide any necessary reports, technical data and/or analysis when required.
• Aid in analyzing all gearbox components for strength and service life
• Help in providing product costing and technical support to Sales and/or Customer Service.
• Assist in the product testing to ensure product compliance.
• Aid in the assembly of prototypes and help train assembly personnel on all new products.
• Implement design changes to products initiated by customers.
• Work directly with purchasing to help source materials and/or components if necessary.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• BSME/BSMET Degree
• 1 - 2 years relevant co-op work experience. A background in metalworking and/or machining preferred.
• Have working knowledge in 3D modeling using SolidWorks or similar system. AutoCad a plus.
• Basic understanding of FEA and GD&T.
• Understand basic metallurgy and heat treatments of steel.
• Basic knowledge of die and/or sand casting process a plus.
• Experience using standard inspection equipment or CMM is preferred but not required.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Have basic MS Office skills in Excel, Word, & PowerPoint
• Willing to travel occasionally if required - domestic & possible internationally.
