Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Geologist/Hydrologist to be based in our Phoenix, AZ office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line.
This position is expected to begin July/August 2023.
Job Overview:
The Entry-Level Geologist will support our Remediation team both in the field and in office, assisting with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations, and remediation.
The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of boring logs, tables, and investigation reports.
Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.
The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Responsibilities include soil and groundwater sampling, assessments, data collection and technical document preparation.
- Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
- Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
- Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.
- Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required
- MS in geology, environmental science, or related field.
- 0-2 years of experience within environmental consulting or related field
- Possesses technical report writing skills.
- Independent field worker.
- Experience performing contractor oversight.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Current 40 hour HAZWOPER training with annual refresher class, if needed.
- Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel, etc.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship is no available for this position.
- Travel is required for this position. Candidates will be asked to submit to a Motor Vehicle Record screening upon hire.
- This is an in-office position. Candidates are expected to reside in the Phoenix, AZ area or relocate if necessary.
