Job Description

Summary:
The Information Design Test Engineer is accountable for the validation of Business Intelligence (BI), Data Warehouse (DW), Operational Data Store (ODS), and decision support Data Marts/Applications. This position is responsible for the creation of test strategies, test cases and SQL scripts. Participates in peer reviews for all test artifacts, executes test scripts, and collaborates with all team members on defects found during testing. This position interfaces with the Business Data Analyst, Data Integration Architects, Data Integration Analysts, and Data Integrations Engineers, DW Operations as needed to assure quality of the solutions.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities
All Levels: • Participates in requirements meetings and/or reviews with the project team to ensure requirements, source to target mappings, and functional or technical specifications are clearly defined and testable.• Provides input into project test strategy.• Responsible for traceability of test cases to requirements, and SQL scripts to test cases.• Identifies appropriate sources of data for testing that meets the business requirements and confirms data is of appropriate quality and completeness • Performs the various types of testing; functional, regression, performance, integrated and production validation. • Participates in peer reviews of testing artifacts; project test estimates, test strategy, test cases, SQL scripts, and execution results.• Executes test scripts during various stages of the software development life cycle (SDLC).• Documents and resolves defects found during the SDLC.• Submits defect reports and communicates status to business, solution designers, developers and/or management. • Completes production readiness reports, as needed. Continuously improves skillsets in technology, testing methodologies, industry trends and Lifetime Health corporate strategies through available training opportunities, classes, and seminars.• Adheres to corporate, divisional and departmental policies, standards and procedures.• Consistently demonstrates high standards of integrity by supporting the Lifetime Healthcare Companies' mission and values and adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and Leading to the Lifetime Way values and beliefs.• Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.• Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.• Performs other functions as assigned by management.

Level I• Performs less complex testing activities on small to medium work assignments.• With guidance, develops test cases and SQL scripts following current standards.

Level II - in addition to All Levels and Level I responsibilities:• Generally works independently, leads small test efforts (projects), and seeks guidance as needed on all test activities. • Demonstrated experience creating test cases, test scripts.• Mentors less experienced Information Design Test engineers when needed. • Creates or provides input to project test strategies.• Provides estimates for testing activities. • Determines if data injection/modification is required for testing. • Effectively interprets, analyzes, and communicates moderate complexity test results.• Identifies and addresses testing risks before they become issues.• Develops and executes manual and automated regression scripts • Completes any production validation/regression status reporting

Level III - in addition to level II responsibilities:• Independently leads medium to large testing efforts or multiple test teams of small and medium size independently.• Creates multiple test strategies across multiple projects.• Identifies and prioritizes critical areas for testing and communicates risks based on detailed analysis of project requirements.• Effectively interprets, analyzes, and communicates moderate to complex test results.• Creates improvements to current procedures and develops models of possible future testing strategies.• Interacts independently with business partners and management at all levels.• Identifies areas of process improvements and a strategy to implement them.• Provides production quality monitoring and validation.

Level IV - in addition to level III responsibilities:• Leads multiple medium to large test team efforts.• Leads EDW program work streams. • Leads integrated test efforts spanning multiple systems, and business areas.• Evaluates test scripts and processes in order to identify and create automated test solutions.• Evaluates workload analysis for performance testing.• Advises others on testing approaches and issues, and leads training seminars• Leads the implementation of process improvements and/or testing strategies.• Can lead all test work teams in absence of management.

Minimum qualifications:

NOTE:

Level I• B.S. degree in computer science, analytics, or related field.• Related work experience (i.e. Co-ops/Internships) preferred. • Knowledge and/or experience in software quality process. • Knowledge and/or experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) a plus.• Knowledge and fundamentals of Data warehousing concepts and model a plus.• Demonstrated experience with SQL.• General programming and debugging knowledge a plus.• Knowledge of test strategies, test cases, procedures, and/or test scripts.• Knowledge of translating business requirements into test cases.• Ability to work independently and in a test team setting.• Excellent written and oral communication skills.• Ability to work effectively with other organizations and business departments.• Good interpersonal and documentation skills. • Strong team player with a high level of interpersonal skills.

Level II - requires similar qualifications as level I, plus:• B.S. degree in computer science, analytics, or related field.• Three years related work experience.• Knowledge and/or experience working with iterative, waterfall, and/or agile methodologies a plus. • Knowledge and/or experience with Business Intelligence (BI) data warehousing environment a plus. • Demonstrated experience in scripting language• Demonstrated analytical experience such as data analysis, data usage analysis, and/or business data analysis. • Demonstrated experience with ad-hoc analysis tools such as TOAD, SAS, COGNOS, PL/SQL Developer and/or other type of analytic tool. • Knowledge of testing mainframe, distributed, opens systems, and/or web applications a plus.• Experience in testing automation and scripting language. • Ability to lead small project testing efforts• Knowledge and/or experience of Healthcare Payer industry a plus.

Level III - requires similar qualifications as level II, plus:• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, analytics, or related field.• Five years related work experience. • Demonstrated experience to lead large and/or multiple project testing efforts• Demonstrated experience in testing automation• Experience in Data warehouse testing required. • Experience with testing configuration tools such as Rational Quality Manager (RQM), HP Quality Center, Test Director 8.0, WinRunner, or LoadRunner a plus. • Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica, Teradata, or Datastage a plus.• Experience with scheduling tools such as BMC's Control-M a plus

Level IV - requires similar qualifications as level III, plus:• B.S. degree in computer science, analytics, or related field.• Eight years related work experience. • Subject matter expert in scripting language, test automation, development of test cases, scripts, and plans.• Ability to lead at a program level or work stream. • Ability to lead integrated test efforts spanning multiple systems, and business areas.• PMI certification a plus.
