Responsibilities:
- Serve as a leading member of a dynamic M&A and Business Development team focused on the evaluation of innovative assets and companies, that have the potential to complement Horizon's existing portfolio
- Working closely with a broad cross-functional team (including External Innovation, Commercial Development, and Technical Operations), leading the team through the evaluation and execution of complex and fast-moving M&A and licensing opportunities
- Collaborate with the cross-functional team on the extensive opportunity search activities, inclusive of establishing and maintaining relationships with counterparts in other organizations and with 3rd party advisors and consultants
- Communicate the status of ongoing deals to key internal stakeholders on a timely basis, including preparation of opportunity assessments and summaries for executive-level audiences. Deliver oral and written presentations to senior management to inform decision making
- Take a leading role in the development and mentorship of the broader M&A and Business Development team, ensuring we continue to deepen the talent pool and develop high-quality professionals
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- BA/BS in a related area. PhD, Masters in Science, or MD preferred
- 10+ year's industry experience with documented success to include previous small company biotech and/or pharmaceutical and/or healthcare experience.
- Significant experience, leadership, and success in all aspects of M&A, business development, and licensing, with a particular focus on leading, negotiating, and closing deals (Deal Sheet required)
- Proven ability to manage highly complex and dynamic processes
- Strong interpersonal and people/team management skills, ranging from project management to talent development
- Professional, proactive demeanor.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Requires approximately 20%+ travel, including some overnight and weekend commitments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
