Job Summary
Leads and directs the day-to-day work activities for a team responsible for promoting financial systems standards and corporate coding structures through advanced knowledge of CNA's products and services, external statutory, regulatory and financial (GAAP) and internal management information reporting requirements. Provides financial systems related technical guidance and formally leads teams on a project basis. Advise and develops designs, system configuration and/or integrates financial data solutions to complex business problems.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Manages the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff. Coaches, leads and develops less experienced teammembers while fostering a positive, open team environment. Evaluates defined client area requirements and processes for application changes to system configuration, data values or complex structures. Performs system analysis, develops recommendations and approves requests to ensure that changes comply with financial systems governance policies, corporate data policy and/or accounting/reporting needs. Designs high level, functional and detailed designs for financial systems and data solutions. Consults with client and application areas to analyze system usage and end-to-end system capabilities, identifies risks, optimization alternatives and recommends and/or executes resolution.
Drives accountability for system and data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the inbound and outbound flow of data involving financial systems.
Collaborates with management, technical staff and subject matter advisors to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis and develop cost effective resolutions for system and data anomalies.
Participates in financial systems architecture discussions and recommends use of existing or new integrations and/or data elements that will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business objectives.
Remains externally focused by providing technical consultation and advisory services to clients and management to ensure development of efficient financial systems utilizing established procedures and methodologies. Influences the development of financial systems policy.
Participates in or leads financial systems related projects including identifying business requirements, requirements management, functional design, prototyping, process design including scenario design, flow mapping, testing, training, conversion, defining support procedures and supporting implementations.
Analyzes, develops, and/or executes specifications for system configuration, data mapping and transformation processes within and between financial systems and its dependent upstream/downstream applications.
Verifies accuracy of system configuration, set-up data, business processes, reports changes and data transformation processes.
Ensures adequacy of test plans and monitors application testing results associated with financial systems processes its dependent applications
Utilizes financial systems reports and/or metrics from applicable systems to review current processes, identify issues, determine resolution and/or escalate problems that require system or process improvements.
Reporting Relationship
Typically Reports to Director or above
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Advanced understanding of financial systems such as Workday, TRec's, etc. Strong functional knowledge and ability to understand inter-dependencies between financial systems functions/modules (such as Accounts Payables, Bank and Cash Settlement, General Ledger, Allocations, Travel & Expense, Suppliers, Consolidations, Eliminations and Financial Close Processes). Extensive experience with business process and other financial systems configuration, building reports and understanding integration concepts to/from financial systems. Strong understanding of Workday's architecture and core functions such as Business Process configuration, security administration and configuration, building basic and advanced reports in Workday and different types of Workday integration systems (EIB, connector, studio). Solid analytical and problem solving skills. Solid communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to work effectively among all levels of internal/external partners/clients. Ability to multi-task and lead in a fast-paced dynamic workforce. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Possesses advanced ability to influence, as well as lead and influence decision making. Skillful at learning and adapting to new system applications, functions, and concepts. Embraces, and readily adapts to change. Advanced technical acumen and computing skills including MS Office Suite, SQL, Workday reporting, configuration and business objects. Ability to develop strong relationships with internal business partners in IT, Finance, Actuarial, etc. and external vendor partners including EXL, Accenture, ATOS, TCS, etc. Knowledge of statistical, regulatory and other National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) information to support external regulatory compliance. Ability to work independently, manage small or parts of large engagements.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Typically a minimum of seven years experience with financial systems, accounting, systems development, data analysis or systems/business analysis. Project management and Saas experience preferred.
Typically a minimum of 5 years leadership or management experience.
Financial systems, insurance or functional certifications such as AIC, CPCU, Workday financials certified, or CPA preferred.
