Full Stack Developer

What do we need

We are looking for a Java Engineer to join the well established, agile development team that is responsible for our flagship product: Geneious Prime. This is a desktop application with both local and cloud backend components, so you'll apply your Java skills to a variety of tasks spanning UI, scientific/business logic and API integration. We are open to hearing from people who have as little as 1 year experience as our advanced team can help support your development.

We work on a remote & hybrid model - Our office is based in central Auckland, ideally you will be in a location commutable to the city 1- 3 days per week.

Geneious is one of the leading bioinformatics solutions internationally, used by thousands of organisations from big pharma to researchers in universities. Our software directly supports scientists working in a wide range of important fields from development of lifesaving therapeutics and vaccines through to climate change and food security.

In this role you will get to: 

• Integrate new algorithms for analysing sequence data
• Build user-friendly tools for managing biological data and integration with cloud services
• Develop and maintain Geneious Prime and other Java based software solutions.
• Collaborate regularly with colleagues and customers to establish requirements and iterate on designs
• Serve as part of a cross-functional development team and take on testing, documentation and support when needed. 

We are looking for people with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent working experience. Knowledge of Biology is not required, as we have a team of scientists who will help you learn. You will be an engineer that prides themselves on getting things done!

The key skills we are looking for 

• Java frameworks & libraries
• UX/UI front end or Full stack development
• Experience working on complex code bases
• Familiar with CI and build tools, such as TeamCity and Gradle
• Familiar with automated test principals 
• Agile software development methodologies and practice
