The Position
The Global Director, Commercial Partnerships will have responsibility for evaluating external commercial partnerships opportunities, building business case and, supported by Corporate Development's Transactions group, leading through deal execution to support Novo Nordisk's commercial products and global commercial pipeline launches and optimization. The Global Director regularly interfaces with area heads in Global Commercial, HQ functions, International Operations, North America Operations, Development, Alliance Management, and senior management. This position is at the epicentre of the evolving commercial landscape and is critical in helping identify, evaluate, and weigh-in on opportunities in the marketplace.
As our new Global Director, you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Independently lead and manage evaluations and due diligences of new business development opportunities when it comes to commercial partnerships (co-commercialisations, diagnostics partnerships, digital health partnerships, data sharing, Health Care Institutions etc.) for Novo Nordisk's current and upcoming global commercial portfolio
  • Lead and manage end-to-end projects and together with transactions team execute on new business development opportunities to support Novo Nordisk's commercial products and global commercial pipeline launches and optimization
  • Lead and manage due diligences, business case, term sheet and contract negotiations with transaction team and counterparts, orchestrating presentation/storyline that ties deal to Therapeutic Area strategy, addresses competitive landscape, presents diligence issues and mitigation strategies as well as financial terms
  • Act as a strategic sparring partner for the commercial organization to have partnering embedded as a tool while building commercial strategies and identifying future opportunities for partnerships that enable the execution of Novo Nordisk's commercial strategy; lead a systematic effort to ensure commercial partnering is considered when relevant
  • Ensure strong cross-functional internal Global & US/International Operations collaboration for timely planning and proper execution of healthcare partnerships projects in collaboration with Global Commercial based on identified and agreed needs and priorities
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment and commitment throughout the process - both at senior mgmt. level and at operational /cross-functional level, e.g. patent, legal, medical, regulatory affairs, finance, marketing, operations etc.
  • Handle other significant re-negotiation/settlement agreements
  • Ensure networking with & knowledge transfer to other BD/Partnering teams in Novo Nordisk and be an anchor for external interactions
  • Contribute to projects/initiatives to continuously improve partnering strategy, processes and governance


Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Life Science, Business, Economics or other relevant field
  • 10+ of relevant experience in pharmaceutical organizations and Business Development is preferrable
  • Demonstrated track record of leading projects and deals for multiple collaborations, commercialisation and partner involving transactions
  • Demonstrated record of presenting to senior management of partnership opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with therapeutic and functional area leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior management, converting a "no" to a "yes"
  • Proven ability to lead all elements of due diligence, building business case and deal structuring
  • Thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical business incl. diagnostics, digital health and new product launches; understanding of Novo Nordisk's therapeutic areas will be preferred
  • Firm understanding of multicultural impact on business relationships including experience in working in an international context and environment
  • Direct or indirect leadership or people management experience in industry or biotech is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills required to provide sound inputs into financial evaluations
  • Ability to identify and prioritize risks across functional areas, weigh those appropriately with benefits of investment, and effectively frame business decisions for senior management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

The Commercial Partnerships team partners with the commercial organisation to drive excellence in identification, evaluation, creation and execution of strategic partnerships that maximise potential of Novo Nordisk's commercial products by facilitating best-in-class deal making.
