Group Summary

Role Summary
The Global Packaging Technology Manager shall perform duties as prescribed in support of Magna's Manufacturing Strategy Department's efforts related to all packaging, containers, delivery methods that are required in the Exterior Group's operations. Typical packaging categories include but is not limited to work in process (WIP), finished goods, sequencing, service parts, returnable, expendable, etc.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop packaging standards to support the Manufacturing Strategy Department and the Exterior Group´s operations.
• Lead packaging benchmarking activities across the group to optimize unit design, part density, part quality, cost to manufacture and delivery methods.
• Coordinate the selection of best value / best in class materials and vendors.
• Coordinate group level purchasing activities and participate in the capital procurement / approvals process.
• Investigate, develop and implement new methods, technologies and automation that will advance the competitiveness of our company.
• Lead / assist in the development of new and better performing products to support the needs of our Customers.
• Support the Magna Sustainability Initiative as it relates to our packaging strategies to ensure the minimization of waste, carbon footprint and overall environmental impact.
• Support Exteriors and Sales group in pursuing new business including planning of Greenfields and Brownfields.
• Support / Lead VSM (Value Stream Mapping) to identify waste in the system.
• Develop a Fleet Tracking system to understand the longevity and re-deployment opportunities for our assets across the company
• Collaborate with logistics team in an effort to optimize/reduce freight costs
• Other responsibilities as appropriate with department responsibilities and process improvements.

Expertise such as:

• Experience with material flow and creating facility layouts
• Experience with JIT and lean manufacturing methods
• Understanding of transportation modes and scheduling
• Understanding of recent trends in automated material handling.

Education/Special Knowledge/Skills - Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field.
Experience - Minimum 12 years of experience in a similar role. Automotive experience is a plus.
Combination of strategic thinking and execution (result) oriented. Experience with P&L responsibility with proven successful business outcomes in managing growth, change and / or turnaround. Deep understanding of customers, markets and competitive landscape. Experience of working in a decentralized organization and demonstrating personal leadership. Networking skills. Experience in working with different cultures, international business; global mind-set.
Physical Demands/Work Environment - Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require domestic and international travel.
