Job Description
The IP Legal Assistant/TM Docketing Specialist will handle all aspects of daily docketing related to the global trademark assets for the Yahoo trademark portfolio, and perform a variety of critical support and administrative tasks related to the team's trademark, domain, and brand protection needs. This is a highly collaborative position on the IP team. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • This role is primarily remote for candidates that live in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Illinois, Massachusetts, Georgia, Michigan. Depending on the candidate's location there may be opportunities for in-office time. If the candidate resides near Dulles/Reston, VA area there may also be an opportunity for minimal in-office tasks such as filing and scanning, and in-person collaboration.
  • Docketing incoming information and dates in the trademark docketing system; preparing docket reports and running customized docket queries; auditing trademark information for accuracy, and answering questions related to the docket.
  • Generating regular reports of due dates, verifying and resolving daily action deadlines, and sending reminders to trademark attorneys and paralegals about upcoming deadlines ensuring no deadlines are missed.
  • Analyzing and processing large quantities of information in a timely manner, including all incoming communication related to U.S. and foreign trademark matters and any other related correspondence.
  • Maintaining trademark records and related documents within a shared team drive and utilizing other online tools.
  • Creating, organizing, and managing documentation and correspondence for the global trademark and domain name portfolios.
  • Conducting research on social media and app store platforms; preparing and submitting basic takedowns and enforcement actions.
  • Assisting with the domain portfolio including regular auditing, monitoring, and document preparation tasks.
  • Corresponding with internal clients and outside law firms.
  • Monitoring departmental email boxes for incoming communications.

Minimum Qualifications:
A genuine interest in trademarks and intellectual property, and a team-player attitude.
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in trademark docketing using a computerized docketing system; experience with WebTMS docketing software preferred.
  • AA/AS degree - BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the USPTO, TTAB, EUTM, and WIPO systems, including U.S. and foreign trademark prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement processes and procedures.
  • Experience working with Google Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel, preferred.
  • Must possess accurate data entry, proofreading, and reading comprehension skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure, on multiple projects simultaneously, and be able to adjust quickly to meet deadlines in a fast-paced often unpredictable environment with competing priorities.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team that is located in various offices.
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and a self-starter with the ability to provide proactive and effective legal support with a dedication to accuracy and thoroughness in work product.
  • Excellent research, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong and committed work ethic.

If hired for this position in Colorado, the compensation range for this position is between $56,625.00 - $94,375.00. The compensation may vary depending on your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include additional incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, plus equity incentives. Yahoo provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, retirement, company holidays, vacation, sick time, parental leave and an employee assistance program.
