Description
IT Infrastructure Analyst, Sr.
Purpose: This position is responsible for leading and supporting efforts related to Technology Service Monitoring including product support, monitoring consulting, work coordination and prioritization, architecture decisions, and project participation.
Job Responsibilities: Primary responsibility is the on-going administration, maintenance, configuration, customization, troubleshooting, upgrades, integration, and product support for the service monitoring tool used by the 24x7x365 Infrastructure Operations Center to provide monitoring, root cause identification, and incident resolution for the Southern Company computing, network and transport infrastructure. This position will provide infrastructure management product maintenance, configuration customizations, product integrations, process and procedure automation and on-going support to maximize the functionality so as to provide reliable and sustainable monitoring of the compute, network and transport infrastructure. This position will also provide development consulting for new infrastructure monitoring and management requests.

Job Requirements :
- Administering and supporting a consolidated monitoring platform (for example: IBM NetCool suite, Oracle Unified Assurance/Assure1) that includes gateways, web user interface, topologies (5 years)
- Knowledge of SNMP traps and Management Information Base (MIB) files (5 years)
- Shell scripting (3 years)
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Automation skills and thought processes
- Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple priorities/details, meet schedules, and deliver on customer commitments
- Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage multiple project responsibilities simultaneously

- Provide leadership in Service Monitoring and Operations Management modernization
- Project participation to migrate from IBM Netcool Operations Insight to Oracle Unified Assurance and future modernization project phases
- Membership on the Technology Organization Enterprise Monitoring team
- General oversight, activity planning, coordination of work activities for subteam
- Coordination of vendor support for Service Monitoring tools
- Evaluate new requests, provide estimates, assist with prioritization
- Provide consulting for new monitoring requests to ensure the appropriate monitoring tool is used
- Maintain and consult on monitoring requirements based on the tier/criticality of assets
- Look for automation opportunities and implement within scope of support
- Provide architecture and technical leadership in reviewing solutions for monitoring of new platforms and environments (for example: OpenShift containers; Cloud including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Azure, AWS, and Google CSP; other monitoring tools like Dynatrace; API Gateways; monitoring of assets in segmented networks)
- Product ownership (responsible for lifecycle management, upgrade path, OS and Database upgrade path, license management, patching support) for Service Monitoring tools
- Participate on projects; design and deliver solutions
- Maintain compliance and inventory data
- Support for new and modified monitoring rules and policies
- Create and maintain product documentation
- Provide details and insight as requested to other efforts
- Provide indirect, secondary support and input to interfaced applications (mapping tools, reporting)
- Perform ad hoc SQL database queries
- Perform data investigation
- Substantial knowledge of information technologies
- Substantial knowledge of IT infrastructure components
- Architecture and advanced technical solution experience
- Strategic thinker that can embrace, influence, and lead change
- Experience in leading a subteam or small group to reach team objectives
- Experience in providing product ownership for one or more vendor solutions
- Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple priorities/details, meet schedules, and deliver on customer commitments
- Effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to convey complex technical issues in business terms
- Ability to build relationships, to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups and customers and exhibit positive influence at all levels
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Substantial knowledge of programming language Python, Ansible, UNIX/Linux shell scripting, and JSON
- Knowledge of systems or network administration responsibilities on one or more platforms: Unix and/or Linux system administration required; experience with Containers preferred
- Experience and/or familiarity with network, computing, storage, and applications management standards and conventions such as SNMP, TL1, FCAPS, ITIL, SMI-S, TMN, and BS 15000/ISO 20000 is preferred
- Experience with other enterprise monitoring tools - For example: Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Microsoft System Center Orchestrator, Micro Focus SiteScope, CA Performance Center, Infoblox DDI, Cisco PRIME, GE PulseNet, Megasys Telenium, Nokia SAM, Nokia NSP, or Adtran AOE
- Knowledge of SQL and database systems (For example: SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, MySQL)
- Ability to provide and accept feedback
- Knowledge of compliance rules and regulations related to Sarbane's Oxley and NERC CIP requirements
- General knowledge of Southern Company's core business
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field or 5 years' experience in systems management environments and technologies is highly desired for this position
- Licenses and/or other professional certificates, such as ITIL Foundations or Manager Certification are preferred
