Qualifications for Laboratory Technicians
  • Graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American

Medical Technologists (AMT).

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or other national certifying agency deemed
  • 1 year of experience as a Clinical or Medical Laboratory Technician
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association or Red Cross
Job duties for Laboratory Technicians may include but are not limited to:
  • Perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests in any one or a combination of waived and moderate complexity testing in various laboratory To include but not limited to: hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank as outlined in the TO.
  • Determine the suitability of specimens for Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
  • Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments. Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks. Identify the cause of common problems and make simple repairs.

  • Recognize and react to indicators of Locate and implement

corrections. Obtain analytical data, convert to a prescribed unit of reporting, as necessary, and correlate data to verify results.

  • Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance
  • Prepare specimens for transport to MTF laboratory or for mail
  • Prepare biological waste for proper
  • Performs other related duties as
  • Works independently, performing a full range of work unique to the donor center
  • Performs donor screening, collecting, processing, testing, labeling, storing, and
  • distribution components for
  • Assists in training donor center staff, military medical laboratory technician students, and pathology resident instruction on blood donor operations and
  • Performs apheresis platelet donations, which involves the utilization of apheresis donor equipment and completion of pre and post donation
  • Performs a wide variety of blood donor collection procedures to include donor

registration, medical interviews, donor screening, and donor phlebotomy for both in

-house and mobile blood drives.
