Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist Lead for a job in Morton Grove, Illinois.

Major Responsibilities:
Demonstrates ability to perform scrub duties as listed on the attached addendum.
Demonstrates adherence to standards of Infection Control.
4)Sterile items are checked for integrity of packaging.
5)Accurately documents use of sterilizers.
1)Proper attire is worn, inclusive of personal protective equipment.
2)Demonstrates adherence to aseptic techinque.
3)Demonstrates adherence to sterile techinque with breaks in technique addressed properly.
Ensures a safe and secure environment through intervention and routine observation.
4)Counts with RN; instruments, sponges, and needles according to policy and procedure.
5)Handles specimens according to policy and procedure.
6)Identifies and investigates routine problems, taking appropriate steps toward problem resolution.
7)Actively turns cases over without delay.
8)Communicates to material supply coordinator any and all requests/issues from physicians regarding supplies, instruments, and/or specialty needs.
1)Demonstrates working knowledge of all equipment and instrumentation, reporting any deficiencies to the appropriate individuals.
2)Protects patients during the operative phase through use of such items as safety straps, grounding pads, positioning devices, etc.
3)Restocks room supplies daily and as needed and prepares cases for the following day.
Delivers patient care under the guidance of the registered nurse.
1)Utilizes preference cards to properly prepare for a case to ensure that all items are available.
2)Reports untoward condition of the patient to other healthcare providers in a timely fashion.
3)Communicates with intra and interdepartmental personnel and other care givers to ensure a continum of care.
Contributes to cost containment and business growth initiatives of the unit/department.
1)Responsible for efficient utilization of all resources within scope of practice.
2)Communicates inventory needs adjustments to Nurse Manager.
3)Participates in cost containment practice strategies working collaboratively with physicans by maximizing existing supplies and Advocate contracts.
Contributes to surgical/endo services, department and hospital innovation efforts to maximize excellence and build respect for services.
1)Submits improvments ideas for ASSH and its services and participates in the implementation process.
2)Identifies improvment ideas within the scope of responsibility, and assumens accountability for implementation and communication of plans and ideas.
3)Participates in unit innovation opportunities and strategies.
4)Provides quarterly report to director of service updates and improvments.
5)Collaborates with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to assure delivery of quality perioperative care. Communicates and collaborates with clinical operations assistants, team leaders, manager and director when opportunities for improved individual and department performance arise.
Performs coordination of specialty service. Serves as liaison to physicians to achieve continued physician engagement and excellent patient care.
1)Functions as primary scrub technician in specialty area.
2)Inventories and restocks all specialty supplies related to service. Collaborates with physicians, materials management, clinical operations assistants, team leaders and O.R./ENDO manager to make sure all necessary supplies, instrumentation and implants are available for use.
3)Directs proper care, processing, and handling of all specialty equipment, supplies and instrumentation. Assures inventory within compliance of sterilzation parameters.
4)Communicates to materials supply staff any and all requests/issues from physicians regarding specilaty supplies, instruments or needs.
5)Assists in orientation of surgical/endo personnel to service and supports existing team members with assistance.
6)Resource representative for said specialty.
7)Maintains and updates physician preference cards.
8)Provides department semi-annual specialty equipment and supply update at the scheduled meeting.
Development of skills and professionalism through participating in educational offerings and/or hospital based committees and continuing education.
1)Attends and complys with all mandatory inservices and staff meetings to update patient care knowledge, theory, practice, infection control and safety practices.
2)Participates in CQI activities.
Participates in the implementation of strategies to increase productivity.
1)Cross train to other unit functions and units as necessary to achieve optimal flexibility.
2)Collaborates with department units to improve communication and efficiencies.
3)Brings suggestions and recommendations to the unit based meetings.
Education/Experience Required:
-High school graduate or equivalent (GED) -2 years surgical/endo tech experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Good communication skills Ability to independently perform scrub duties
-Certified in basic life support -As of 02/01/2018, Certification in Surgical Technician within 6 months of hire
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
β’ May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease and radiation β’ This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. β’ Ability to cooperate and work well with others β’ Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others β’ Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints. β’ Ability to work designated shifts including weekends and holidays β’ Ability to assume on-call responsibility
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Addendum: A. 2. Restock room supplies as needed and prepare for the following day. Identify equipment deficiencies and reports to appropriate individual.
